Latest News: Minibus Fundraising Plans

CAFA’s aiming to raise funds to go towards a minibus for the school. It’s an ambitious target as we need to raise around £15,000. To date we’ve raised around £2500. Some of this money will go towards the minibus but some has been or will be allocated for other purposes including:

  • An online Chemistry AS/A resource for key stages 4 and 5
  • A small contribution towards a high school transition workshop for feeder school Year 6 students
  • Reading books for nurture group students
  • Refreshments for the students who participated in the Spring Concert.

CAFA on Twitter

We’ve just set up a Twitter account so please follow it for regular updates about what we’re up to.

Tickets cost £1 per draw and will be on sale from the start of September – forms will be available on this webpage and you can pay by sending in a cheque or by direct payment from your bank account. There is one draw a month.

We were fortunate to have some local businesses give us sponsorship during the 2016/17 lottery. If your business might be able to get involved with sponsoring a lottery draw, please email us. It costs £30 and in return we’ll make sure you get mentioned on the CAFA webpage, in email updates and on our Twitter feed. We’ll share links to your website and social media pages and distribute promotional materials in school if appropriate.

We’ve started fundraising by collecting old British or foreign coins and notes, even obsolete currency.

Once all the currency has been collected we send it to who’ll exchange it into cash we can use.

The bucket will be in school all year so please keep the coins coming!

Many thanks for the donations that we’ve now started to receive through our fundraising page.

If you’d like to make a contribution towards our minibus appeal please click on this link and it will take you there.

Shop with over 3,100 retailers and easyfundraising will give a donation to the school every time you make a purchase. Retailers include eBay, Amazon, John Lewis, B&Q, and loads more. It won’t cost you anything.

Win a share of £500 for Castell Alun Friends’ Association this July

Even better, for every two donations made by retailers when you shop via the link during July, the school will get one entry into a draw to win a share of £500.

Signing up to support Castell Alun Friends’ Association is really easy – just follow this link, fill in your email address, set a password and your account is set up. No other information is needed. You can then go via easyfundraising to do your shopping and we’ll get a donation every time.

There is no catch or hidden cost; it’s just a really easy way to raise extra money for the school.

Unfortunately due to low ticket sales the event had to be cancelled. With such a small team on the PTA, we’re trying to find time efficient ways to come up with events and activities that people will enjoy so if you have any thoughts, please do let us know at

What is CAFA and how can you support it?

If you’re a member of staff, a parent/carer/relative of a current student or indeed one of our former students then we want you to feel part of Castell Alun Friends’ Association. Any fundraising support you can give to help increase opportunities for our students is greatly appreciated.

You might be able to approach your employer about becoming involved in sponsorship or participating in match funding schemes. You could promote events in your area by sharing them with others via social media, local newsletters and word of mouth. Your involvement with any of the activities, events and fundraisers arranged by the committee would also be very welcome.

The Committee

Our committee is currently made up of a few parents and staff. We had our first meeting in October 2015 and became a registered charity in February 2016. If you’d like to take a more active role in CAFA by joining the committee you’ll be really welcome. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month during term time at 6.15pm and we make sure meetings end within an hour. The next meeting will be taking place on Tuesday 19th September 2017. If you’re interested in finding out more, come along to a meeting or email us at for more information.
