The standards of students’ uniform, behaviour and approach to learning has been excellent so far this term.  It is very much a team effort, so I must sincerely thank parents and carers for working with us to ensure our high expectations are maintained.

Our Whole School Assembly this week was on the theme of ‘new beginnings’.   Thanks to Hannah Ison and Penny McCormick for presenting a report on their Netball Sports Trip to Barcelona which took plce towards the close of our last academic year.

Thank you to all parents who have completed the Parent Online Questionnaire for Estyn.  Just a quick reminder – parents are invited to a meeting with the Reporting Inspector, Mr. Steven Pringle, on Monday 25th September at 5pm in the School Hall.  We would encourage all parents to attend, and the meeting should last about one hour.

The next Castell Alun Friends’ Association meeting takes place on Tuesday 19th September at 6.15pm and all are welcome.

At the end of last term our Year 10 Health and Social Care students visited Cardiff to participate in a workshop at Cardiff University, at the School of Health Care Sciences. Our students experienced the role of an Operating Department Practitioner in a simulated practice theatre. They had the opportunity to practise keyhole surgery techniques and understand surgical and anaesthetic practice.  By the end of the event, out students understood the role of theatre professionals very well.

Miss Roberts (PE) has taken a lead role in a campaign entitled ‘Our Squad’ with Sports Wales.  The campaign aims to encourage more girls to become involved in Sport.

Well done to Jonathan Davies who finished third in U13s Squash Welsh Junior Open Grand Prix.  Also congratulations to Sam Bakewell, Oliver Johnson and Harvey Arrowsmith who are now playing regularly for RGC Under 16s against teams such as Cardiff Blues.

Finally our congratulations go to Sam Morris and George Webber who were both Under16 Boys Tennis Finalists. Sam actually won the event and George was runner up at the Welsh Tennis Championships which took place over the summer holidays
