Friday 16th June 2017

Year 12 returned to school this week and have been hard at work on their Welsh Baccalaureate individual investigations.  This is a busy time for Year 12 preparing for Year 13 together with their work experience placements which take place in the week beginning 17th July.

Mr. Kevin Davies and 100 Year 12 students visited a UCAS fair in Liverpool yesterday.  The students had the opportunity to talk to various universities.   We start the university application process next month with our students who wish to attend university, and will be holding an information evening for parents on the 12th September.

One of our Year 12 students, Giuliana, is travelling to Kenya with Camps International on 10th July.

She will be joining students from other schools and will take part in environmental and conservation projects together with teaching in local schools in the area.

We wish Giuliana every success on her trip and look forward to hearing about it when she returns.

This week Miss Janice Jones and groups of Year 7 students have been visiting out local primary schools to talk to Year 6 students about life at Castell Alun.  It’s always great for us to hear how much our new intake our looking forward to joining us in September.  We look forward to meeting them on our transition day Friday 7th July.  We have also had Year 5 and 6 students visiting today taking part in an extensive maths workshop with Mrs. Joanne Jones.

On Tuesday evening last week, we held a twilight training session for our teachers.  This focussed on the sharing of good practice for teaching and learning.  We are lucky to have such high quality teachers who are constantly looking for ways to improve the educational experience our students receive.

Our Hairspray production is coming together well with rehearsals in full swing.  The Expressive Arts team has decided to change the show dates to 19th, 20th and 21st September.
