Friday 23rd March 2018

In our Spring concert last night we were treated to a really special evening, consisting of brilliant contributions from our Wind Band, String Ensemble, Year 10 music group,  Choir, Year 7 Dance Group, Jazz Band, Saxophone Ensemble and Saxophone Group, Percussion Ensemble, “The Average Humans” and our Year 7 Rock Band.  Wonderful solo or duet performances were also given by Adam Rothero, Joshua Berdouk, Rhys Oliver, Hannah Cartwright, Lucy Nash, Carys Jones, Esther Rhodes-Leader, Hannah Jones, Benjamin Cartwright, Amy Carolan, Edward Walker, Mille Whittle, Rhian Davies, Laura Wilson, Hannah Griffiths and Kamenka Durban.  It really seems that the quality of performance and standard of talent on display goes up from concert to concert!  Well done to everybody involved and a special thank you to our Expressive Arts staff for making such an event possible.  Thanks to all of you who came along to support the concert.

Our Year 11 Drama GCSE students completed their final practical performance on Tuesday.  Standards were as high as we anticipated, and our students carried on preparing and performing brilliantly, even when the school was temporarily thrown into darkness through a power-cut to the whole area!  Well done everybody – great job!  Mrs. Rebecca Lloyd-Jones now goes on maternity leave and is replaced by Mrs. Gemma Holland.  We look forward to meeting the extended family soon Mrs. Lloyd-Jones!

We celebrated Sport Relief in style this week with lots of activities for Lower School students, a non uniform day today and a staff netball match.  Everybody really enjoyed the fun, but some staff do appear to have picked up various minor injuries!

As mentioned last week, our KS4 Basketball Team travelled to Cardiff, competed well and came 4th in Welsh School Championships.  Well done everyone – we’re really proud of you all.

And finally, earlier on today our Year 10 Ski Trip departed for Amade, Austria and we can’t wait to hear their stories upon their return.  During the Easter holidays, a number of our KS4 Duke of Edinburgh students will undertake a practice Silver Level expedition also.

I hope you all enjoy some restful and well earned time off over Easter.
