Castell Alun Friends’ Association
CAFA became a registered charity in February 2016. The committee is currently made up of a few parents and staff. If you’d like to take a more active role in CAFA by joining the committee you’d be really welcome. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month during term time (although our next meeting is taking place on the 23rd October) at 6.15pm and we make sure meetings end within an hour. If you’re interested in finding out more, come along to a meeting or email us at email@example.com for more information.
Even if you can’t join us at the meetings we’re always trying to find (time efficient!) ways to come up with events and activities that people will enjoy so if you’ve any suggestions, please do let us know.
Minibus Fundraising – We’re up to £5000
The school now needs a new minibus ASAP so we are doing all we can to help them. Please support our efforts if you can.

Festive Fair and Pamper Evening
Following the success of the event last year we’re holding another one on Friday 7th December. More details to follow but if you’re interested in having a stall there, please email us for more information. A digital version of our poster can be found here.
Dragon Bags – Wednesday 24th October 2018
We have organised a ‘Daffi Day’ with locally based textile recycling company Dragon Bags. By getting involved you’ll be able to help us to raise funds and support our local fire fighters. The school will receive £500 for every ton collected (50p/kg) and an additional £50/ton will be donated to the Fire Fighters Charity.
To get involved simply fill the bags that will be sent home with students with clothes, paired shoes, bags, belts, hats & gloves, swimwear & jewellery. All items must be in good reusable condition. We are aware of the logistics of students coming in on buses carrying extra bags so will have to see how it goes…but even just a small bag would help.
Trip to Manchester Christmas Market – 10th November 2018
We’ve organised a coach trip to the Manchester Christmas Market on Saturday 10th November. Tickets are £10.00 each and collection/drop off points will be from school and by the Red Lion pub in Penyffordd. Precise times will be confirmed ASAP but we’re aiming for around a 9am departure and to be back by 4pm. Forms available here.
We’ve started fundraising by collecting old British or foreign coins and notes, even obsolete currency.
Once all the currency has been collected we send it to www.cash4coins.co.uk who’ll exchange it into cash we can use.
The bucket will be in school all year so please keep the coins coming!
We’re also about to start collecting old mobile phones and Inkjet cartridges… Info can be found here.
Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s lottery. We’re deciding whether to continue it as the number of people who joined last academic year was quite low. We’ll post an update shortly.
