Castell Alun Friends’ Association

Castell Alun Friends’ Association

The Committee

CAFA became a registered charity in February 2016 and the committee is currently made up of a few parents and staff. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of the month during term time (the next meeting is taking place on the 15th October) at 6.30pm. Even if you can’t join us at meetings, please let us know if you’ve any suggestions about fundraising activities or if you could help run events. If you’re interested in finding out more, come along to a meeting or email us at

Thanks to the people who came along to the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 17th September. At the meeting we said a huge thank you and farewell to Niky Baker who has been the chair of CAFA since it started.

How the Fundraising is Helping the School

Thanks to your support CAFA’s been able to help the school out in various ways including a £5000 contribution towards the new minibus, £1000 to the modern foreign languages area to buy new ICT equipment and £600 to the English department for camcorders.

There remains a long list of resources the school and students could benefit from so please do continue to support our fundraising efforts if you can. We’re currently trying to help with raising money to build a covered section within the Quad.

Events and Fundraising Activities

Recycling Event

Thanks to everyone who came along to support our recycling day. We raised almost £1000 which was a fantastic effort.

Festive Fair

The annual Festive Fair will be taking place at the school on Friday 29th November. We’re currently on the lookout for stallholders so if you’re interested please email us for more details.

Manchester Christmas Market

After the success of last year’s event, we’re hoping to arrange another trip, provisionally on Saturday 16th November. Please note that under 16s are welcome to come along, but this is not a school supervised trip therefore they will need to be accompanied by an adult.

We are fundraising by collecting old British or foreign coins and notes, including obsolete currency. We then send it to who exchange it into cash we can use. The bucket is in school all year.

We’re really pleased by the response to the new lottery. Many thanks to everyone who is supporting it. Draws are weekly and as well as being in the draw to win the local prize, supporters are included in a weekly national draw to win £25,000. Please visit this link to find out more information and sign up.

Shop with over 3,100 retailers and easyfundraising will give a donation to the school every time you make a purchase. Retailers include eBay, Amazon, John Lewis, B&Q, and loads more. It won’t cost you anything.

Signing up to support Castell Alun Friends’ Association is really easy – just follow this link, fill in your email address, set a password and your account is set up. No other information is needed. You can then go via easyfundraising to do your shopping and we’ll get a donation every time.

There is no catch or hidden cost; it’s just a really easy way to raise extra money for the school.

If you’d like to make an online contribution towards our fundraising, please visit our Facebook page and use the donate button. If you prefer to make a donation by cheque, please make it payable to “Castell Alun Friends’ Association” and mark the envelope for CAFA’s attention. If you’re making the donation as an individual rather than as a company, and would like to Gift Aid your donation, you’ll find the form here. Thank you!

Sponsored Walk

We’d hoped to organise a sponsored walk this side of Christmas but due to a lack of people available to help run it, we had to put plans on hold. We’ll hopefully arrange it for some time next year as the weather improves…
