Castell Alun Friends’ Association

(CAFA)

The Committee

CAFA became a registered charity in February 2016. The committee is currently made up of a few parents and staff. If you’d like to take a more active role in CAFA by joining the committee you’d be really welcome. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month during term time (our next meeting is taking place on the 20th November) at 6.15pm and we make sure meetings end within an hour. If you’re interested in finding out more, come along to a meeting or email us at cafa@castellalun.flintshire.sch.uk for more information.

Even if you can’t join us at the meetings we’re always trying to find (time efficient!) ways to come up with events and activities that people will enjoy so if you’ve any suggestions, please do let us know.

Thanks to everyone who supported our textile recycling day and who went on the coach trip to Manchester Christmas markets!

Minibus Fundraising – £5000

As the school urgently needed a new minibus, plans have changed and we are now making a £5000 contribution to help them buy it asap. The fundraising continues: in challenging financial times, there remains a long list of resources the school and students could benefit from.

Events and Fundraising Activities

Festive Fair and Pamper Evening

Following the success of the event last year we’re holding another one on Friday 7th December. The Festive Fair and Pampering evening takes place from 6.30 to 9.30 and will feature a wide range of stalls including clothing, crafts, accessories and festive food as well as a licensed bar. Mini beauty treatments will also be available on the night.

Tickets cost £3 for adults (£4 on the door) and £2 for under 18s and are available from school as well as from AKR Hair in Hope. You can also buy tickets online via mydonate. Your name will be added to the list on the door or we can arrange for your ticket to be passed on to you beforehand via school if you prefer.

Please do come along for some festive shopping, pampering and socialising and to support the school at the same time.

We’ve started fundraising by collecting old British or foreign coins and notes, even obsolete currency.

Once all the currency has been collected we send it to www.cash4coins.co.uk who exchange it into cash we can use.

The bucket is in school all year so please keep the coins coming!

We’re also collecting old mobile phones and Inkjet cartridges until the end of this term so please send them in. Remember to wipe all personal details and data off phones first.

Thanks to everyone who supported this year’s lottery. We’re deciding whether to continue it as the number of people who joined last academic year was quite low. We’ll post an update shortly.

Shop with over 3,100 retailers and easyfundraising will give a donation to the school every time you make a purchase. Retailers include eBay, Amazon, John Lewis, B&Q, booking.com and loads more. It won’t cost you anything.

Signing up to support Castell Alun Friends’ Association is really easy – just follow this link, fill in your email address, set a password and your account is set up. No other information is needed. You can then go via easyfundraising to do your shopping and we’ll get a donation every time.

There is no catch or hidden cost; it’s just a really easy way to raise extra money for the school.

We’ve now had several donations through our fundraising page – thank you so much. If you’d like to make a contribution towards our minibus appeal please click on this link and it will take you there.

If you prefer to make a donation by cheque, please make it payable to “Castell Alun Friends’ Association” and mark the envelope for CAFA’s attention. If you’re making the donation as an individual rather than as a company, and would like to Gift Aid your donation, you’ll find the form here.

CAFA on Social Media

We have a Twitter account so please follow it for regular updates about what we’re up to. We’ve also just launched a Facebook page which you’ll find here.
