Friday 20th April 2018

This week our whole school assembly was on the theme of April Showers and was well led by Year 10.  Kian Howells and Joshua Berdouk provided the readings, while Kaya Lloyd–Martin and Millie Whittle brought an amusing report on the Easter Ski trip.

Last term our Year 7 to 10 students completed a survey developed by the School Health Research Network (SHRN) which aimed to explore all aspects of student wellbeing.  Just after the Easter break, Year 10 students David Jones, Cerys Jones and Kaya Lloyd-Martin represented our School Council at a Flintshire networking event which provided them with training to help School Council members develop an understanding of how to interpret the data gained from the SHRN survey and to devise an action plan for our school based on the findings. The students were supported by a leading researcher from Cardiff University and we now look forward to receiving our individual school data report and working on our action plan to benefit the health and wellbeing of all our students.

We thoroughly enjoyed the company of a large number of primary school (Year 6) children on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  These pupils, who are clearly really excited about joining Castell Alun in September, engaged in a ‘Talk the Talk’ workshop or a more able and talented transition event.

As last weekend, this weekend a number of our Year 10 students will again undertake a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh trial expedition and will surely be blessed with beautiful weather for the occasion.

We are already in the midst of the external examination season, with both Music and Drama Sixth Form students having now successfully undertaken their practical exams.  Next week sees the beginning of languages orals for Year 10 (Welsh), with Year 11 (French and German) following the week after.

On Tuesday next week our Year 9 students will have DTP injections and will, of course, be permitted to wear their PE t-shirt for the day.

As previously mentioned, our Site Supervisor, Mr. Paul Muncey is now en-route to London, in order to participate in this year’s marathon.

A large amount of money has already been pledged, but more is always needed to support such worthy causes as his chosen charity ‘Children with Cancer’.

If you are able to contribute please follow the link available on our school website.  We wish Paul all the best and are very proud of him.

And finally, a date for your diaries, on Friday 22nd June our Castell Alun Friends Association will hold another ‘Fashion and Fizz Evening’ in the school hall.  Tickets will be £5-00 and the event will begin at 7.30pm, with 50% or more reductions on fashion items from your favourite high street brands.  I will remind you about this again nearer the time of course.

I hope we all enjoy the lovely weather forecast for this weekend.
