Friday 20th January 2017

We now enter a very busy time in the life of our Sixth Form. Internal Year 12 and 13 examinations have concluded and on Wednesday 25th January we will hold our Year 12 Parents’ Evening, commencing at 4pm. Our Sixth Form Open Evening is scheduled for Wednesday 1st February, to begin at 6.30pm. This promises to be a lovely evening and we are confident that our Sixth Form will continue to go from strength to strength in 2017-2018.

Our whole school assembly this week was on the theme of ‘happiness’ with readings from Shakira and Simon from Year 12. We also had a beautiful piano and vocal rendition of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ from Molly in Year 8.

On Tuesday of next week our Year 8 girls are scheduled to have their HPV vaccinations. All girls may, of course, wear their school PE shirt on this day if they feel it necessary.

Keen as we are to support worthy causes, and further to our Site Manager, Mr. Muncey undertaking the London Marathon in aid of Children with Cancer UK, we are proud to announce that an ex-student, Mr. Mark Adams, will soon trek along the Great Wall of China in aid of Click Sergeant.

The Castell Alun Friends Association (CAFA) annual general meeting will take place on 28th February at 6.15pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and hear about the fantastic fund raising that has taken place over the last year. Please note that it is still possible to join the Castell Alun Lottery. Tickets costs £2 per draw with a total of 12 draws take place annually. Please click here for more details.

Student chosen to be on the forum for Everton Junior Fans

Well done to Jessica, Year 9, has been chosen to be on the forum for Everton Junior Fans. To gain her place on the forum she had to describe in 100 words why she should be chosen. So far she has created an App, been secret shopping, walked onto the pitch with the flag on match day and has met the first team players twice. Her next meeting will be in February half term, when her assignment will be to organise a match day for the Junior Fans Club.

Well done to the following students who took part in the NE Wales Cross Country on 11th January at Dinas Bran. Phillipa, Charlotte, Megan, Archie, Ruben – Year 7, Courtney, Jack, Owen – Year 9, Ethan, Shannon, Harry – Year 10 and Adam, Holly, and Max from Year 11. The first ten competitors in each race qualified for the Welsh Championships which will take place in Cardiff. Archie has qualified, with Courtney and Charlotte narrowly missing out, coming in 11th and 13th respectively.

Good luck to our Year 9 Rugby Team who will travel to Preseli, Pembrokeshire on Tuesday for the next round in the Welsh Cup, having become NE Wales Champions recently.
