Mr Muncey and Mr Hughes

Our Whole School Assembly this week was on the theme of Election and was led by Year 11.  Well done to our readers Andrew Cowling and Georgia Arnold.  Our excellent musical item came from Adam Rothero who played a Grade 7 Piano piece from his recent successful exam.

Congratulations to our Site Manager, Mr. Paul Muncey who last Sunday completed the London marathon in aid of Children with Cancer.  Mr. Muncey has raised well over £3000 helped by Year 7 who held a ‘Tie up childhood cancer day’ where they wore trainers to school.

As you may have seen on the website the Friends of Hope Community Library volunteer group and Castell Alun High School have been jointly running Hope Community Library for over a year.  To celebrate everyone is invited to Hope Community Library 1st Birthday party on Saturday 6th May between 10am – 12pm.   I am told there will be a magic show, birthday cake and a raffle.

I have had the pleasure this week of meeting with some of our students who are excelling in their chosen sports outside of school.  You may remember Sammi Short, Year 11 who has been selected for the England U21 Womens’ Indoor Cricket Squad.  Sammi has been to see me this week as she has now been selected to compete in the Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai later this year!

I have also met with William Owens, Year 9, Oliver Critchell, Year 8 and Owen Critchell, Year 7 who have been selected to represent North Wales in the U14 Boys County Cup Tennis Team this weekend in Malvern.  Good luck boys!

I am looking forward to attending the Celebration of Youth Music at Theatre Clwyd this evening which is billed as one of three evenings of outstanding musical performances with a wealth of Castell Alun talent on display.

Thirty five Year 10 students are heading for the hills this weekend for their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze practice expedition.  Our teachers, Mr. Duffy, Miss Ball, Mr. Mitchell and Miss James have their fingers crossed for good weather!

Mr. Nugent’s Year 7 maths class have been extremely busy over the past weeks designing and making a project with artist Honor Pedican from Lead Creative Schools.  I would like to invite family and friends to an informal celebration to find out what the project has involved and what your son/daughter has made.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions of both staff and students and there will be a display of the design and making process, along with the final products.  The event will be held in Hope Community Library on Friday 5th between at 11am, with free refreshments.
