Our whole school assembly this week was on the theme of attitudes and actions.  Thanks to Jack Barron and Hannah Cartwright for their readings, and to Annie Beggan Year 13 for singing ‘Dy Garu o Bell’ beautifully.  Annie also performed in the Under 19 ‘Song from a Musical’ competition in the County Urdd Eisteddfod held in Mold last Friday evening where she came a very respectable 3rd place.

U18 Netball Cup Final

Last Friday Miss Roberts, Miss Davies and the U18 netball team travelled to Cwmbran to compete in the U18 Netball Presidents’ Cup Finals. This was a very exciting competition with our coaches commenting  that they were on the edge of their seats for every game!  The team came 4th overall, having won three games, drawn 1 and lost 3 (all by one goal).  Congratulations to Tara Young, Lucy Fowles, Erin Chadwick, Lydia Thomas, Robyn Williams, Naomi Huxley, Menna Pritchard Taylor, Lauren Sidebottom, Amelia Bailey, Celyn Jones and Holly Atkinson.

Our annual Spring Concert takes place on Thursday 6th April.  We are really looking forward to this event now that our new lighting and sound system in the school hall has been installed.  This event has become an extravaganza of music and drama over the last few years and tickets are currently on sale priced at £3.50 from Mrs. Southwell.

Our Castell Alun Friends’ Assocation continues to go from strength to strength.  If you would like to join the committee the next meeting takes place on Tuesday 25th April.  Please email cafa@castellalun.flintshire.sch.uk for more information.

Well done to our Year 7 Rugby Team, who beat Ysgol Morgan Llwyd 43-0 recently. This was a great effort from our boys!

Congratulations to Sammi Short, Year 11 who has been selected for the England U21 Womens’ Indoor Cricket Squad, with the prospect of competing in the Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai later this year.   Sammi has been playing cricket since she was 6 with Pontblyddyn Cricket Club and more recently played in the Wales Girls U13 and U15 squads at regional level.  We wish you the best of luck Sammi!

Well done also to our Year 7, 8 and 9 gymnasts who competed in the 5×60 competition at Holywell High School yesterday.   The Year 7 girls came 3rd in the floor competition with Kyla Ellis, coming 1st in the tumble and Charlotte Wolley, 3rd on the level 2 vault.  Miss Roberts has congratulated the whole team on their hard work and dedication.
