Castell Alun High School has not only seen its students accept a record number of places on traditional top university courses, but also had a number of hard-working, gifted young adults achieve places on highly acclaimed courses or accept fantastic job offers and higher apprenticeships.
An incredible 34% of all grades awarded to Castell Alun students were at A or A*. Furthermore, from a truly comprehensive open Sixth Form intake, almost 60% of all grades were awarded at A* – B, with nearly all students achieving 2 or more grades at A* – E. In vocational subjects results were nothing short of tremendous, with 75% of all Business BTEC students achieving that top (Distinction *) grade, half of all Sports Studies entries being awarded at Distinction * and every single student on the Performing Arts and Stage Management courses achieving the top grade also.
Castell Alun students gained a stunning 99% pass rate at Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Level, a result which places the school amongst the very highest in Wales
Carys Jones has truly hit the high notes with her splendid results, and has now accepted a place to read music at the highly prestigious Newnham College, Cambridge University.
Headteacher, Mrs Paula Williams, remarked, “We are so delighted for all our students. Whilst we’ll miss them all as they’ve made fantastic contributions to school life during their time with us, we could not be more thrilled for these members of the Castell Alun family as they use their many successes to move–on to the next stage of their lives. Our Sixth Form continues to thrive and produce grades comparable with top schools across the country and I am truly indebted to all parents and staff who have tirelessly supported these young people in achieving such great results. We wish every student continued success and happiness as they take the next step towards their chosen career.”
