Hitting the High Notes at Castell Alun

Hitting the High Notes at Castell AlunAbi and Molly, both Upper Sixth Form students in the Castell Alun High School Sixth Form, have been accepted to join the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales.

Abi and Molly attended auditions in November for this prestigious musical ensemble and competition was fierce. Both girls are highly competent clarinet players and have played in many school ensembles, Flintshire wind bands, the Flintshire County Jazz Band and the Four Counties Youth Orchestra.

Both girls received the glad tidings of their success soon after and are due to attend their first rehearsal at Easter, when they will join other top musicians from around the country for a week long residential course which will culminate in a high profile concert in Newport.

Abi has been playing the clarinet for 8 years and commented, “I was thrilled to pass the audition and I can’t wait to join the orchestra.” Molly added, “ I was fortunate enough to have played with the national Orchestra last year also and so I was pretty nervous about the annual audition, but now I’m back in, I’m really excited. I’ve made so many friends there. It’s a fantastic experience.”

Castell Alun continues to nurture the talents of many high class and emerging musicians. The school will hold its Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 3rd February from 6.30pm and anybody interested in seeing and hearing about all courses on offer are welcome to attend without prior appointment.
