First Place Kata

First Place Kata

Our Lower School Assembly this week was on the theme of conforming. Well done to our readers Ruby and Freya, both Year 8, and thanks to Hannah, Year 11, for the music item.

Well done to Cerys, Year 9 on her first place kata at the BKI Nationals.

Our Open Evening on Wednesday was extremely busy. It was great to see so many of our students helping. Prospective students and their families were certainly given a flavour of life at Castell Alun. As always, our students were a credit to us and I was very proud of their input on the evening. I also thoroughly enjoyed showing families around school during our Open Mornings today and yesterday.

This weekend members of our support staff will be running the 5K In Living Colour Run and raising money in aid of Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The team consists of our IT technicians Marc and Michael Flackett, Site Supervisor Paul Muncey and former student Lowri Thomas. The fantastic staff at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital saved the life of Marc’s wife Laura earlier this year when she required emergency surgery for a faulty valve and heart aneurysm. We wish them all the best of luck!

Donations can be made here.

On Monday Dr. Davies and Mrs. Vaughan took the Nurture Group students to Tesco Broughton on a ‘Farm to Fork’ trail. The students learned all about the origins of their food and had a go at shaping and baking their own bread, handling fish with the fishmongers, tasting cheese and working on the tills.

Good luck to Shannon, Lucy, Harriet and Nia, all year 10, who are playing in the Flintshire Schools Under 16 Hockey Team this Sunday at Rydal College, Colwyn Bay. Good luck also Lauren who is playing in the Under 18 Flintshire Schools Team. We are extremely proud of the valuable contribution these players have made over many years to hockey at Castell Alun. I will update you with how they got on next week.

Don’t forget our Castell Alun Friends Association Fashion show tonight. Doors open 7pm with the show starting at 7.30pm.

Castell Alun Friends’ Association Lottery needs you……….
Sign up before Friday 21st October and you’ll be entered in draws for the full academic year 2016/17. There will be a total of 12 draws; to fit in with the school year, some will be drawn as double draws. Tickets cost £2 per draw and you just need to complete the lottery form which you’ll find via this link. You can then send it in to school along with your cheque (or pay directly from your bank account if that’s easier).

I am looking forward to our Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday of next week. This is very timely with the GCSE maths exams coming up straight after half term, closely followed by the Year 11 Mocks.
