Friday 10th May 2019

Well, we packed five days of teaching and learning into four days this week, and our external examinations are going well. We were also very impressed with students in the lower school, who sat National Literacy and Numeracy tests over the last few days, and for some, this was their first experience of a formal examination. Well done to everyone in Year 7 especially!

Our Year 12 students go on study leave at the end of today and I am pleased to report that our students are very focused and displaying great attitudes to preparations for their AS-Level examinations.

Fantastic news… you may recall that our amazing students in 8 O entered a National French pop video competition a few weeks ago and not only wrote a song in the foreign language, but also performed it with some style on location in and around Hope and local villages. Well…… we won the round for all secondary schools in Wales! So now it’s on to the British finals for our budding pop stars, and we will keep you informed of progress. Superb work everybody in 8 O and Ben (Year 10) also, who compiled the video footage meticulously using his extraordinary skill set. Many thanks to Mrs. Phillips, Miss Gittins, Miss Nesbitt and Mr. Gadie for all of their efforts in making this fantastic initiative possible. You can see 8O’s video by following this link.

Please don’t forget that CAFA is running a recycling event in the school hall tomorrow from 11am to 1pm. Thanks to everyone on the team. We hope to raise a lot of money.

The Public Library will run a Meet the Author event on Saturday also, between 7pm and 9pm. Patricia Burton will answer questions on her books and the writing process, and wine and cheese will be on offer at a price of £5 at the event.

On Friday next week we will hold an Equality and Diversity raising awareness day in school and students will be invited to showcase Welsh Baccalaureate work and other posters and projects on themes such as LGBT and Amnesty International.

Next week a large group of Year 7 students will enjoy a trip to Nant BH and everybody is warmly invited to come along to school on Friday 17th May from 5pm to 6.30pm to attend our Variety Show. The Variety Show will showcase the talents of lots of our students, will be great fun, and is open to everyone…. there are no tickets, so please be in the school hall by 5pm if you fancy some light-hearted entertainment.

It looks like the early stages of summer may arrive next week – let’s hope so. Have a great weekend!
