A very happy New Year to one and all from the entire Castell Alun team.

Our term has begun with a vengeance with Years 12 and 13 undertaking internal mock examinations. Year 11 English Language students have small group discussion examinations next week. Science practical examinations are also being held for Year 11 students from Monday 21st January onwards. And finally, on the same theme, students in Years 9 and 10 begin preparations for their trial examinations, which commence on Monday 28th January.

Also on the horizon are both our Year 8 Parents’ Evening (from 4pm on Thursday 24th January) and, of course, our Sixth Form Open Evening (on Thursday 7th February from 6.30pm). Please note that our Sixth Form Prospectus is now available both here and, in hard copy, from main reception. Castell Alun Sixth Form outcomes and standards of care remain amongst the very highest in the country, and we are always thrilled to see both our own Year 11 students and indeed those wishing to transfer to us from other schools at our Open Evening.

The New Year has seen a new stock of books, specifically aimed at students at Key Stage 3, filling the shelves in our Library, and we are excited to report that our Accelerated Reader Programme has gathered a great deal of speed over recent weeks. Continuing on the theme of the School and Community Library, an event featuring local kinesiologist, Peta Pendlebury, will be run from 7pm to 9pm on Saturday 19th January. Tickets are available from the Library at a price of £5.00 and everyone is welcome to attend. The event seeks to encourage wellbeing through holistic therapy.

School sports fixtures begin again next week and our Year 8 and 9 Boys’ Rugby Teams and Sixth Form Boys’ Football Team have mouth-watering cup fixtures to look forward to in the latest rounds of the Wales’ Cup in Caernarfon and Aberystwyth.

Full steam ahead then! Have a lovely weekend.
