Bore da

In recognition of the Coronation, all students in school were given a commemorative pen this week, courtesy of CAFA.  CAFA wanted to mark such an historic day with a small, useful memento from which every student could benefit.  As you know, CAFA works tirelessly each year raising much appreciated funds through their various events and activities, which then go completely to benefit the students here at Castell Alun. In the past year alone, funds have been used to help start a STEM science group, refurbish the counselling room and fund a Sixth Form trip to a UCAS fair.  Our friends at CAFA very much appreciate the assistance they receive and warmly welcome anyone who would like to join the group and add further most valuable support.  If you would be interested, please follow the link on the school webpage.

Attendance at our virtual Year 8 Parents’ Evening last night was strong and a great many valuable conversations took place.  We extend our grateful thanks to each and every family who work so effectively in partnership with us in order that we can achieve the best for and with our students.

Today, Year 12 students begin their study leave and they appear to be very well motivated and raring to go with their AS and equivalent exams.  Time goes so fast!  It is now less than two weeks before Year 11 have their Leaving Ceremony (Thursday 25th May) and in a fortnight our Year 13 cohort come to the end of their formal school journey also.  The Year 13 Leaving Ceremony and meal are on Friday 26th May.  Although these are official leaving celebrations, please do remember that the examination period remains in full flow for the following four weeks and we are always available to assist our students in every possible way throughout the entire term.  Students in Year 11 are understandably extremely excited about their prom on Thursday 29th June.

Congratulations to Annabel (Year 13), who has accepted an offer to study at the University in South Florida from August 2024, where she will be able to continue with her golfing and academic studies.  What an amazing opportunity and thoroughly well deserved!

Well done to Erin (Year 7), who won player of the tournament award at the ENG Netball U12s finals last weekend and our congratulations go also to Juliet and Brooke (both Year 8) who have been selected for the Flintshire Football U13s squad to play Caerphilly in the National Finals at TNS on the 20th May.

Although we are now already deep into examination season and therefore priorities for some students are understandably elsewhere, please do be so good as to keep us informed of all successes so that we can celebrate them together.

Have a lovely weekend.
