The New Year is now in full flow and we have been greeted with some interesting weather conditions already. Please may I remind you to check the school website and new mobile phone app (available for Apple iOS and Android). for guidance as to good practice on days of inclement weather. We will always do our best to keep the school open, however, should the need to close arise, we will inform you of this via the school website and answering machine message.

Our whole school assembly this week was on the theme of new starts. Many thanks to Kaya Lloyd and Ellie, Year 9, for their participation in the event. We are excited about the possibilities and opportunities that 2017 will bring to our students and would encourage everyone to engage fully in the extra curricular events on offer, including Study Club.

I would like to draw your attention to our Site Manager’s participation in the London Marathon this year. Mr Paul Muncey will run in aid of Children with Cancer UK. If you would like to support him in his brave attempt to complete the 26 mile course for such a worthy cause please follow the link provided on the school website.

Many Year 7 students will participate in a ski trip this week to Chill Factore in Manchester, with subsequent trips also planned to Nant BH in the near future. We do our very best to ensure that all of our students have access to a broad variety of educational and fun activities and I am thankful to everyone who works so hard to make such learning opportunities possible.

External examinations for Years 10 and 11 have run smoothly over the past week and we are now in the throws of internal examinations for Years 12 and 13 in specific subjects. This is indeed a busy time of year and Years 9 and 10 are now being encouraged to set time aside to revise for their internal examinations, which are scheduled to take place at the end of January and beginning of February.

As previously mentioned in my Blog, GCSE and A Level Summer 2016 certificates are available for collection from the main school reception between 8.30am and 4.00pm. If someone other than the student concerned wishes to collect certificates on behalf of the student, then they must have a signed letter, authorising them to do so. Certificates will be kept at the school for one year.

The Governors’ Annual Report to Parents is now available to download here.

Our Year 7 and 8 Netball Team played at the Urdd Netball Tournament in Bangor yesterday. The girls won their group matches against Flint, Connahs Quay and Bangor and went through to the quarter finals. The girls played extremely well but lost to eventual winners Maes Garmon. Well done to Poppy, Hannah, Alesha, Penny, Sophie, Elin, Jessica, Sophie and Nia.
