Friday 15th February 2019

Well done to Adam and Megan of Year 8 who read so well in the Lower School Assembly today.  Our theme was the ‘Safe Use of Technology’, in keeping with last week’s ‘Safer Internet Day’.  Although we embrace wholeheartedly the power of the internet and social media, we must all remain mindful that even good things can be abused.  Our musical item was called ‘The Story’ and was performed wonderfully by Laura of our Sixth Form.

This week thirty of our Sixth Form Biologists enjoyed an educational visit to Chester Zoo and a large number of our Sixth Form students also attended a talk given by St. Andrews University at school.  Our Reading Information Evening for KS3 students was a success on Tuesday and romance was in the air on Wednesday when a number of our students enjoyed a Valentines themed menu in the canteen.

Well done to PE students in Year 11 for their successful participation in a mock moderation event on Thursday, and today we host a visit from Mr. Ian Dickson (Estyn), who is observing good practice at Castell Alun in the curriculum area of Social Studies, in order to cascade our methodology onto other schools.  We are proud to be selected as a school which can assist others in the department of effective teaching across our Country.

Really well done to those students in Year 8 who participated in the fundraising event for the sports trip to Venice next year.  The goodies that you created were very well received and, although it is still some way off, we are absolutely certain that you will have a great time on this trip.

Next week is the last school week before half term.  Our Year 12 Geographers will undertake a field trip visit to Harlech on Monday, and our Year 13 Art students will attend an exhibition in Ruthin also.  Incredibly we are already into examination season and a number of Year 13 students will be involved in a Drama practical exam on Wednesday and Thursday.  St. David’s Day falls during our half term holiday and thus we will celebrate this special occasion in school on Thursday 21st February this year.  At the end of the week we say farewell to our Year 10 skiers as they embark upon their annual trip to Amade, Austria.  We wish you happy travels, lots of the right kind of snow and loads of fun.  Also on Friday evening, a number of Year 11, 12 and 13 Welsh students will attend a national rugby match at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.

It appears that the worst of winter is over….. famous last words!  Please enjoy your weekend.
