Friday 18th May 2018

Students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have undertaken external examinations this week and we have high hopes for their success.  There are further examinations for students in these year groups next week also, and again after the half term break.

Congratulations to our KS3 Cheerleading Team on their achievement of 5th place in the Regional Cheerleading Competition this week.  Well done especially to Year 12 student, Holly, for her pivotal role in developing our team.

Matthew, a Year 10 student, has taken a massive step towards becoming a professional golfer.  He competed in the North Wales Boys’ U18’s 72 Hole Golf Competition last weekend, winning the net score event and coming third in the gross score event.  The competition was held over 2 days at Rhuddlan and Abergele Golf Clubs.  Matthew played brilliantly, holding his nerve many times to shoot very impressive rounds of 70, 79, 76, 68 gross.   Playing off a handicap of 1.8, Matthew has been in the Wales Golf Performance Squad since the age of 9 and is a Wales U16 international player.

On Wednesday evening a number of our Year 12 students enjoyed their visit to Theatre Clwyd to watch a performance of ‘A Street Car Named Desire’.  This event has further enhanced their understanding of the play.

Yesterday a number of our Year 9 students participated in a ‘more able and talented’ Sugar Craft event at Castell Alun and we were pleased to host a number of visits from students in other local secondary schools at this event also.  The quality of the cake decorations produced was absolutely stunning!

Next week we hold our Achievement Ceremonies for both Year 13 (2.15pm on Thursday) and Year 11 (2pm on Friday) students.  If your son or daughter is in either of these year groups it would be lovely to see you at these wonderful celebratory events.

Congratulations to former student, Amelia Shallish, who has recently travelled to New York to perform at the US launch of the Oxford Handbook of Dance and Wellbeing.

And finally, well done to all Castell Alun students who took part in the ’Pretty Muddy’ 5k Race for Life at Alyn Waters last Saturday.  The following picture has been forwarded to me and shows a member of our office team, Mrs. Nicola Anderson, fully supporting this worthy cause!

Enjoy the weekend.
