On Wednesday of this week I visited Airbus for an insight into the broad range of employment opportunities available to our students. It was great to listen to the presentations, particularly the company overview given by Martin Evans, Head of Industrial Academy UK. Martin and I both joined Airbus as apprentices in 1985, training together for the next four years.

Also on Wednesday, our Whole School Assembly was on the theme of Leadership and was led by Year 11. Our readers this week were Saskia and Grace, with Annie providing the fantastic musical item.

Year 7 took part in a programme of PSE activities yesterday delivered by ‘Crucial Crew’. Visitors from the Transport Police, Fire Safety, Water Safety, Scottish Power, Food Standards Agency, Dogs Trust and the Police delivered safety talks to groups of Year 7 throughout the day. They covered a range of safety sessions from animal safety, fire and water safety to bullying and peer pressure. Our Year 7 students really enjoyed the sessions and I would like to thank all of these agencies for giving up their time to talk to our students.

On Monday morning Welsh AS students enjoyed a drama workshop run by the visiting company ‘Mewn Cymeriad’. Part of the new Welsh AS course involves studying the history of the Welsh settlement of Patagonia. All students got involved in the workshop and found the session beneficial to their studies.

Sports news this week includes a spirited performance by Under 16 Boys Rugby team at Wrexham rugby club last night under the floodlights. The boys overcame a very strong Morgan Llywd side in the semi-final of the RGC North East Wales school competition 17-5. Tries were scored by Jay, Andrew and Aaron with a conversion added by Aaron. The boys now keenly await news of their opponents in the final and we wish them all the best.

Yesterday our Year 9 football team won their match against Rhyl High School 6-0 and now go through to the next round of the Welsh Cup. Well done to the team – Jordan, Freddie, Elliot, John, Zac, Ayden, Connor, Ben, Owen, Isaac, Toby, Jack, Finley and Joel.

Today we held a non uniform day for Children In Need. As always, staff and students got into the spirit of this event and raised lots of money along the way.
