Friday 19th May 2017

This morning I wished good luck to our Year 9 boys football team who, having been Welsh Champions last season, are heading off to Swansea to play matches against the winning teams from other home nations. I’m sure the boys will have a great weekend and we look forward to hearing how they’ve got on.

Our Art department have been busy marking and moderating the Year 13 students’ work. I popped down for a look at a selection of the pieces and was incredibly proud and impressed with the quality and complexity of the finished work.

I was very proud to congratulate Daniel Roberts, Year 11 this morning on being awarded a Young People’s Community award by the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner. You may remember Daniel spent his summer holidays last year repairing the school community garden after it was vandalised.

Daniel was presented with the award for his ‘selfless act which allowed his community and fellow pupils to continue to enjoy the garden and not to suffer because of the actions of the vandals’. I would like to thank Daniel and his Taid once again for all their hard work.

We are fortunate to have secured funding from Flintshire More Able and Talented consortium to host a Careers and Education Conference aimed at inspiring the future of our students. All 12 of our Flintshire high schools will be taking part with Castell Alun former students talking to them about their education path and career since they left school.

Castell Alun have been working with Future First who have helped us to build our Alumni community and will be hosting the event with us. If there are any former Castell Alun students who wish to take part in this event on the 19th June 2017 from 4-6pm please contact Mrs Katy Jones at school. We would welcome any former students to sign up to our Alumni community via the Future First website (futurefirst.org.uk).

I would also like to say well done to Elin Faragher, Penny McCormick and Sophie Page who completed in the Welsh National U13 Netball finals last week, coached by Miss Roberts.

The team won all their games until the finals where they lost to Llantwit Fadre 17-6 to become Welsh National U13 Runners Up.
