We have ended a busy but very productive half term with Achievement Ceremonies for Year 11 and Year 13.

It was great that so many parents and carers were able to attend both proceedings. Yesterday we said farewell to Year 13 with Mr. Kevin Davies leading with his traditional mix of humour, musical items and slick organisation. For the third year running, our guest speaker was Miss Catrin Pugh.

Catrin’s journey back to health is both incredible and inspirational, and the advice she shared with the students will certainly stand them in good stead for successful futures.

Our guest speaker at the Year 11 Ceremony today was Miss Louise Higgins who did a fantastic job of inspiring our students by sharing her own experiences both as a student at Castell Alun and her career as a lawyer.

This week three of our former students, Emma Wynn, Rebecca Swan and Angharad Hughes, accompanied by Mr. David Croasdale, were presented their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Mr. Croasdale said it was a fantastic experience with an excellent guest speaker Jess Eddie, a three time Olymic rower.  Mr. Croasdale would encourage all of our Duke of Edinburgh students to complete the Gold Award and take part in this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Last week our Year 9 football team, who were Welsh Champions last season, travelled to Swansea to play against teams from the home nations for the Allen McKinstry Cup. The boys played extremely well against Our Lady and St. Patrick’s College from Northern Ireland only just losing 0-1.

Well done also to our Year 7 hockey team who came third in the Flintshire NW Tournament this week.

Good luck to Kim Powell, Year 8 who has been chosen to represent Wales in the Dance World Cup taking place in Germany at the end of June.

On Sunday 22 students from Years 8 and 9, together with Miss Roberts, Miss Davies and Miss McCarthy depart for a netball sports trip to Barcelona. The girls will be competing against other touring UK schools. They will also have the opportunity of visiting sights such as the Nou Camp Stadium, Part Aventura Theme Park and the Gaudi building. We look forward to hearing how they get on when we return to school after the half term.
