Sixth Form Open Evening 2017

On Wednesday evening we held our Year 12 Parents’ Evening. It was great to see so many parents and students meeting with teachers to discuss progress and consider areas for further development in partnership together.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening for next year’s Year 12 takes place on Wednesday 1st February and starts at 6.30pm. There will be a presentation in the School Hall at 6.30pm, which will be repeated at 7.15pm in order to fit in with parents’ busy schedules.

All Year 11 students from Castell Alun and other local schools are invited to attend.

Our Sixth Form Prospectus can be found here.

Lower Sixth Form students to visit Japan

Current Lower Sixth Form students, Ellie Harper and Sam Wiggs, have won the opportunity of a lifetime to participate in an exchange trip with students in Japan.

Ellie and Sam will have the time of their lives when they stay with their new Japanese friends in either Murata, Kawasaki or Zao in the prefecture of Miyagi, 300 miles to the north of Tokyo in August.

While there they will participate in traditional activities such as tea ceremonies and local cultural festivals and will be afforded a first hand flavour of school life also. The Japanese exchange students will then be invited to visit Ellie and Sam students in July.

Forty four of our Year 10 students visited Chill Factore in Manchester yesterday in preparation for their upcoming ski trip to Austria in February. A great time was had by all.

U18 Netball Team

Just a reminder that the Castell Alun Friends Association (CAFA) annual general meeting will take place on 28th February at 6.15pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and hear about the fantastic fund raising that has taken place over the last year. The December and January draws of the Castell Alun lottery took place during breaktime today. Congratulations to the winners, Sharon Bakewell and Elizabeth Venables. If anyone would like to join the lottery tickets costs £2 per draw with a total of 12 draws. Please click here for more details and the form.

Congratulations to our U18 North East Wales Netball team – Holly Atkinson, Tara Young, Lucy Fowles, Erin Chadwick, Amelia Bailey, Celyn Jones, Lydia Thomas, Robyn Williams, Menna Taylor and Lauren Sidebottom who convincingly beat Coleg Cambria 19-8 and Glan Clwyd 32-9 and have now qualified for the Wales Presidents Cup Finals in Ebbw Vale on March 25th.

Year 9 Rugby Team

I would also like to say how proud we are as a school of our Year 9 boys’ rugby team who, after becoming NE Wales Champions, traveled all the way to Preseli this week to play the next round in the Welsh Cup.

Unfortunately the match was narrowly lost , but the boys played brilliantly – well done to Lewis McKintosh, Jack Lawrence, Scott Pope, David Jones, Braeden Miller, Zak Hewitt, Kyle Sheridan, Iestyn Cunnah, Fredie Howorth, Sammy Bakewell, Isaac Lecki, Ayden De Winter, Connor De Winter, Jack Plimley, Tommy Ellis, Toby Rees-Slawson, Fin Thomas, Jonathan Jones, Jack Phillips and Jason Higham.
