Our whole school assembly this week was on the theme of ‘Forgiveness’.   Our readers Carys and Meilyr (Year 11), read beautifully and sensitively, and Adam (Sixth Form) provided another fantastic musical item.  There can be no doubt that if Adam performs to this standard in his practical examination, he will ace it!

Year 13 Business students took part in mock examinations this week, in order to help them prepare for some of the challenges of the world of work.  We are very fortunate to have a wonderful partnership with Young Chamber, and want to thank Mark Davies (Aaron & Partners), Amanda Jarvis (Wockhardt), Paul Hughes (Wockhardt) and Ceri Wilkins (Seneca Bridge Resource Partners), who all gave up their valuable time to put our students through their paces in a simulation of the interview process.  Undoubtedly each of our students learnt a great deal and the interviewers were very pleased with the standard and integrity of the students.

In other news this week, students have undertaken various practical and oral examinations, and some have attended more able and talented events in certain subjects or assisted with activities in the local community.  We are particularly grateful to our Castell Alun Vocal Group (Year 10), who went along to Hope Church and entertained the rowds during a pop-in session yesterday.

Congratulations to our Year 10 Netball Team, who won 18-11 against Mold Alun, and a big well done to Matthew (Year 11) who has, once again, been selected to play for Wales U16s in a Quadrangular Golf Tournament in Troon next month.  Matthew has a handicap which most amateur players can only dream of!  Ruby (Year 7) deserves a special mention today as she won the Player of the Tournament award in the recent Netball UK Cup Finals in High Wycombe.  Wow….. isn’t that quite something!

The Castell Alun Friends Association never stops supporting us.  Recently these amazing people have donated £1000 to the Modern Foreign Languages Area in order to support the purchase of exceptionally useful ICT equipment.  The CAFA team will soon start a regular lottery in order to continue raising funds for us.  For further information please follow this link: https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/school/castell-alun-high-school. We are truly grateful for all the support we receive.

It is worth a mention that we now have a defibrillator located at the entrance to the building, just outside main reception.  In the unlikely event that this machine is required, members of the public are asked to dial 999 whereupon they will be given the code to access the defibrillator.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week our Governing Body will be interviewing candidates for the Headteacher position, and during the week a variety of oral examinations and practical examinations will take place.  On Wednesday we will welcome a large number of Year 6 students to school to participate in a “Talk the Talk” transition event.  On Thursday it is, of course, our Year 7 Parents’ Evening.  We really look forward to seeing parents and carers of students in Year 7 from 4pm onwards.  At the end of the week students in our Year 8 will be taken along to Hope Parish Church for an Easter service, and we are very grateful for our friendship with all in the Hope Fellowship.

During the week before Easter an Estyn Inspector will visit the school again in order to share our strong practice on the theme of ‘Partnerships with Employers’ with other schools at a later date.  We are really pleased that members of the inspectorate are aware of the wealth of good practice evident at Castell Alun.

It’s not too late to get those flowers and chocolates in for Mother’s Day.  Have a lovely weekend!
