It has been quite a week in the life of the school! Estyn Inspectors spent four highly rigorous days with us and, although their judgements are yet to be ratified, as a school family we are very pleased with their findings. A good deal of further information will be available in the Inspection Report which is due to be published on Monday 27th November.  I must take this opportunity to thank each of you for your unswerving support. Words cannot express how proud I am of each of our students and the incredible contributions that they have made to Castell Alun over the last few weeks.  Inspectors were blown away by your children!

Our Whole School Assembly this week was on the theme of ‘Honesty’, led by the Sixth Form.

Lauren Edwards and Darcy de Winter were our readers. Ewan Venables and Charlotte Fox, both of Year 8, provided an excellent Eisteddfod report.   Musical contributions were made by Hannah Griffiths (harp) and Annie Beggan (vocal).

Hannah was awarded full marks for her performance piece in last year’s external examinations, and Annie’s amazing rendition of ‘What a Wonderful World’ left everyone in little doubt that she is a worthy member of the National Youth Choir for Wales.

We would like to wish Spencer Gibson (Year 9) well as he travels to Scotland this weekend to participate in the U’13 Scottish BMX Championships.

Just last night two of our Year 9 netball teams participated in a tournament. Incredibly, both teams played the Argoed, Hawarden and Maes Garmon and won all of their games. Fantastic girls, well done.

A massive congratulations to our wonderful athletics teams in Years 10 and 11 for coming first in the Flintshire Schools’ Championships on Tuesday of this week. There were a great number of spectacular performances. Watch this space, next stop could be the Olympics!

I wish you all a lovely weekend and I know that staff and students all deserve a thoroughly good rest.
