Due to Year 9 and 10 internal examinations we didn’t hold a main school assembly this week.  Students in Years 9 and 10 acquitted themselves admirably and coped with the pressures of examinations very well on this trial run.  Well done everyone!

Last night we held a really successful Sixth Form Open Evening and were thrilled to discuss courses with a number of guests from both Castell Alun and a broad range of other secondary schools.  We had a great deal of positive feedback from everyone who attended and look forward to welcoming a large number of students into our Sixth Form once again in September.  Anyone who was unable to attend the event can make an appointment to visit us, have a look around and talk to subject specialists at any time.

A group of more than 40 Year 7 students had a wonderful time at Nant BH this week, even though we thought we might need an Ark to get them there on Monday!  Staff at Nant have contacted us subsequently to say what a delightful group of students attended and how they felt that we should all be very proud of each and every one of them.  Our students engaged in all forms of outdoor activities and had a truly wonderful time.

Our Year 8 Boys’ Rugby Team hope to go from success to success and have just found out that they have been drawn away to a school on Barry Island in the next round of the Welsh Cup.   We are really hopeful of further victories!

And finally, the high quality of education, care, support and guidance provided at Castell Alun has again been confirmed through National Schools’ Categorisation.  We have been awarded ‘Green’ school status, of which we are incredibly proud, especially following on from such a successful Estyn Inspection.  I really want to thank all of you for your role in supporting the work of our school and it is lovely to have our collective efforts so clearly recognised, being placed in the top category in this way.   I have no doubt whatsoever that our children are the recipients of the wonderful team work which exists so evidently amongst the entire Castell Alun family.

Have a nice weekend.
