Main school assembly this week was on the theme of ‘Speaking Out’. Laura Wilson of Year 12 performed a fantastic rendition of Ed Sheeeran’s ‘I See Fire’, and is clearly destined for Glastonbury! Millie Whittle and Jack Strong, both of year 10, brought our readings – well done to all.

In the Scottish BMX Championships last weekend Imogen and Spencer performed brilliantly in terrible weather conditions! Imogen came 1st and Spencer came 3rd in their respective classes. Incredibly, both students have only been racing for just over a year!

Dylan Drew of Year 11 has been selected for the Welsh U’16 Basketball team and hopes to play in the European Championship next year. Impressive stuff Dylan!

Congratulations also to the following girls for being selected to represent Flintshire Netball in the North East Wales Triangular Tournament at the end of the month.

The Seren launch for the Wrexham and Flintshire Hub took place at Castell Alun last week. Over 300 high ability students and parents were in attendance and some students gave their personal experiences of Seren to date. Luke Ralphs-Davies, an ex-student of Castell Alun, spoke about his experiences applying to Oxford and his time at University College Oxford, where he is studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics – the same course as Malala Yousafzai the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Two ex-Castell Alun students have reached the finals of the Apprentice Awards Cymru. Corey Jones works for Aldi and Peter Rushworth is a multi-award winning Butcher. We wish them well and are always proud of Castell Alun family members and their continuing success.

And finally, we had a tremendous attendance at the New Intake Open Evening on Thursday and, as ever, all our students did us proud and were fantastic ambassadors for our school family. Our students were a great help and made the Year 6 visitors feel very welcome in so many different ways. We anticipate a high number of applications for our September 2018 intake. Following on from this, lots parents attended our Open Morning on Friday and were shown around by senior members of staff.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, and we wish our National Football Team well over the next few days.
