Friday 7th December 2018

We welcomed in Advent in our Main School Assembly on Wednesday this week, and Faith and Mia sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Last Christmas’, superbly complimented by readings from Annabelle and Gabe of Year 8.

It was lovely to see so many parents of students in Year 7 on Monday and Tuesday afternoon this week.  The conversations you had with Group Tutors are vital stepping stones in ensuring that we establish effective two way communications in order to support all students in both their learning and wellbeing.

On Wednesday this week, our Sixth Form Business students enjoyed a day at Chester Zoo and undertook a good deal of important research, required for their AS and A-Level courses.

Congratulations to our Year 9 Geography Quiz team, who came in fourth place in the Chester University World Wide Quiz on Wednesday.  We are used to strong performances at this event, and the current Year 9 team did not disappoint.

On Thursday a number of our Year 12 students attended the Seren National Conference in Newtown and our Year 7 went to the annual festive pantomime at Theatr Clwyd in Mold.  Staff and students had a great time and it is wonderful to know that Mr. Condren can still boast the most consecutive guest appearances as the pantomime dame/stooge!

We wish to thank Mr. Graham Kelly most sincerely for all of his work with Seren, the Welsh Assembly initiative for high performing students in Wales.  Mr. Kelly has been a faithful servant of the programme for some considerable time now and remains one of our school governors.  He has helped numerous students with university applications and a number of our A Level candidates have declared that they owe him a great debt of gratitude.

A final reminder that this evening (Friday) CAFA is holding a Festive Fair and Pamper Evening in the School Hall starting at 6.30pm.  Tickets are available on the door and it promises to be a lovely event.

A select group of our student population has been working hard on a new Student Newsletter, which we hope to make available to all soon.  Although hard copies will be available from school upon request, it is our intention to publish this document on the school website in order to save paper.  More information on this soon, but a massive well done and thank-you to everybody who has been involved so far.

Our Christmas Concert tickets for the evening of Thursday 13th December are now available from Mrs. Southwell, priced £3.50, to include refreshments. This will be a wonderful event as we are blessed with so many talented students and hard-working staff.

Advance Notice – Christmas lunches for students will be available in the school canteen during the last week of term.

Well done to brothers Josh and Lewis, who competed in the South Wales Junior Open Squash Tournament and both finished runner-up in their respective age categories.    Both lads have recently represented North Wales in the English Inter-Counties series and in May this year Josh will represent Wales in the Juniors Five Nations Tournament in France.

Well done to our Year 9 Rugby Team who defeated Ysgol Glan Clwyd 17-12 in a really hard fought match this week.

A special mention this week to Jake, David, Nathan and Joe in Year 11, who have recently completed the 34 mile Sandstone Trail across a large section of Cheshire countryside in order to support Nightingale House.  Jake recommended this charity to his friends after the recent passing of his father and in acknowledgement of the wonderful support that all at Nightingale House brought to the family at that time. The group of lads chose to undertake this activity as part of their Year 11 Business Project and their group (called ‘Nige’s Trust) has raised a great deal of money for this wonderful cause.

With only two weeks ago I hope you have all nearly finished your Christmas shopping!

Have a great weekend!
