Friday 9th December 2016

On Thursday and Friday of this week we held our Christmas services at St. Cynfarch’s Church for Year 8 and Year 7. Well done to our bell ringers on Thursday who were Elin, Celyn, Penny, Freya, Ieuan, Harrison and thanks to the readers Lilly and Ben. On Friday our bell ringers were Millie, Isaac, Matthew, Leah, James and Lewis and the readers were Murray and Sophie. Thanks as always to Rev. Pawley and his team for the warm welcome and for sharing with our students some insight into the real meaning of Christmas and how St. Nicholas’ role came to being.

Church Service 2016

I was delighted to hear on Wednesday that Flintshire County Council is keen to invest in our site. The £4.6 million earmarked for Castell Alun will make a huge difference to the quality of our buildings and learning environment. Thanks to all members of our school and local community who have worked to ensure that our needs will be addressed.

Library Competition 2016

Our Whole School Assembly on Monday was on the theme of forgiveness. Well done to our reader Rhys and well done also to Carys, Year 8 for performing the musical item on guitar so brilliantly.

Tonight (Friday) I will be attending the Flintshire Music Service Christmas Concert at St. Mary’s Parish Church in Mold. As always there will be a wealth of Castell Alun talent on display.

This week the Year 10 students held a Christmas Market to raise funds for Hope House. Students have been working for weeks creating products from an initial £5 investment from the charity to sell at the market. There was a vast array of products available to buy and early indications suggest that over £1,000 has been raised for an amazing local charity.

Well done to Hermione who, working with her mum, has raised over £1,000 for Riding for Disabled in Llanfynydd by making and selling Christmas tree decorations.

Year 7 Work Review

On Thursday I had the pleasure of meeting with four Year 7 students to discuss their progress in school.

It’s great to hear how much they are enjoying life at Castell Alun. The work in their books was also very impressive indeed.

Mrs. Mitchell our school librarian has been running a competition this week to make as many words as you can from ” Happy Christmas”. The students have had great fun finding words and she had lots of entrants. The target was twenty words or more and the winners drawn at random were Ruby 7T, Emily 7O and Abby 7E.

Congratulations to them and thanks to everyone who took part.

There will be a fun quiz on Thursday 15th Dec at lunchtime in the library, open to Years 7 & 8. Prizes for the winners.

Our Year 9 football team played in the Welsh Cup against Glan Clwyd High School this week. They won the match 5-1 and are now through to the national rounds of the competition which begin in January.
Well done to Jordan, Zac, Freddie, John, Aiden, Finley, Jack, Ben, Owen, Elliot, Dan, Isaac, Toby and Joel.
