School Blog (05/05/23)

Welcome to the School Blog. Many of us enjoyed the Bank Holiday last weekend, and of course, we will not be in school on Monday, 8th May, as this is another Bank Holiday for schools to celebrate King Charles’ Coronation. However, we are mindful that many of our students now face external examinations, and we all appreciate that the extra day of holiday will mean for many that revision will need to be undertaken.

The next five school weeks will be incredibly busy for staff and students alike. Please remember that we must all help our children to maintain a balanced perspective during these busy times. The importance of healthy lifestyles, including sleep and exercise, should not be understated.

This morning, we held our whole school assembly to celebrate the King’s Coronation. The event was both highly informative and very well respected. We would like to extend our thanks to Leo (Year 7), Macey (Year 8), Rhys (Year 9), Sibella (Year 10), and Sion (Year 11), who all read beautifully. Natasha (Year 11) displayed an incredible degree of skill in her piano performance of Experience, and the ensuing applause made it clear just how much other students appreciated her playing.

May we please remind you that we will hold a Virtual Year 8 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, 11th May. Bookings have now opened for this event. The following day, Friday, 12th May, Year 12 begin their study leave. They will return to school after their AS Level or equivalent Examinations on Monday, 5th June.

Many of you will already know that Castell Alun leads more students through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards than any other school in North Wales. Today, we are proud to congratulate Eleri, Iwan, Nina, Evie, Archie, Caitlyn, Freya, Lauren, and Elisha (Year 11), who have all recently been awarded their Duke of Edinburgh award at Bronze level. Fantastic job, everyone! We are firm believers that a healthy body contributes to a healthy mind. There is something special about learning and growing while having lots of fun!

A big well done to Noah, Zach, Will, Celyn, Cal, Jack, and Rhys (Year 10), who play football for Hawarden Rangers U15s and have just won the Flintshire Junior League, losing only one game all season. That’s very impressive, lads!

Oscar (Year 9) has now qualified for the Schools’ National Ski Championships event, which will take place in Gloucester on the 12th of May. We wish you the very best of luck, Oscar, and can only presume there won’t be any real snow outdoors on this occasion—unless you know something we don’t!

See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
