A Busy Week at Castell Alun
Welcome to the School Blog. The warmer weather is finally with us, and we can celebrate another busy week in the life of the school.
Year 11 Achievement Ceremony
Last Friday, it was wonderful to have Alice and Maisie, founders of ‘Sisters and Seekers,’ join us as guest speakers for the Year 11 Achievement Ceremony. As ex-students, they shared their experiences of our school, which resonated deeply with students, parents, and staff alike. Their business success testifies to their skill, vision, and work ethic, and we are privileged to count them as alumni. Year 11 students behaved impeccably and thoroughly enjoyed being part of this special occasion. Additionally, we were treated to four impressive musical performances from our talented musicians.
After a brief weekend, Year 11 students have now embarked on their written public exams. With nearly five weeks of examinations ahead, these students will soon enjoy a well-deserved break before many return to begin their journey in Castell Alun Sixth Form.
Year 12 and Year 7 Updates
This Friday marks the start of study leave for Year 12 students, who will be sitting their exams in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Year 7 Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday, 16th May, starting at 4 pm. Due to public examinations, this event will not be held in the Sports Hall. Instead, rooms along the ground floor Science corridor and in Y Celtec, our new building, will be used.
Year 13 Leaving Ceremony
On Friday, 24th May, at 2:15 pm, we will hold the Year 13 Leaving Ceremony. Guests should be seated by 2 pm, and the event typically lasts around two hours, meaning Year 13 students will need alternative transport arrangements. We are delighted to welcome back our previous Head of Sixth Form, Mr. Kevin Davies, as the guest speaker. Later that evening, Year 13 students will celebrate with a meal at Double Tree Hilton Chester.
Sporting Success
In sporting news, a big congratulations to our Under 14 Girls’ Rugby Team, who participated in a ‘7s Festival’ at St. David’s College. The team delivered excellent performances, with standout tackles, line breaks, and great teamwork. We won one of our games, and two players, Grace and Anna, earned ‘Player of the Match’ honours.
A special mention goes to Josh in Year 10, who played cricket for Wales this week. We are incredibly proud of his performance for the Wales Under 19 Cricket Team against Shrewsbury School. Well done, Josh!
Performing Arts and the Urdd
As part of their Performing Arts exam, Year 12 students performed an edited version of ‘Percy Jackson – The Lightning Thief’ musical for Year 8 students and later for family and friends. These talented students handled every aspect of the show, from set design to sound and lighting. Their spectacular performance is a testament to their hard work, and we wish them the best in their summer exams.
Finally, on Wednesday evening, Castell Alun hosted the Urdd’s ‘Arts and Craft Awards’ night. Students from across Flint and Wrexham received certificates for their entries into the Urdd Eisteddfod. Special congratulations go to Sera in Year 7, who won first prize in the ‘Design a Comic’ strip competition and will now progress to the National Eisteddfod. Da iawn, pawb!
Let’s hope the weather holds for the weekend. Enjoy it, everyone – See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
