School Blog (12/11/21)

Welcome to the School Blog. Yesterday, we held a poignant reflection on the theme of sacrifice made during war for Remembrance Day. The entire school observed a time of silence and discussed the hope for a future where the mistakes of the past are not repeated. Thank you for all contributions made to the British Legion through our School Gateway.

Yesterday evening’s Year 13 Parents’ Evening was a great success. We highly value parental engagement in such events because educating students is truly a partnership. As a wise person once said, “It takes a community to raise a child.” Our Year 13 students are now considering life after Castell Alun, and we are keen to assist them in all ways possible so they can follow their dreams.

One example of a student pursuing his passion is Murray (Year 12). Murray will soon attend the Manchester Animation Festival, which we hope will provide him with a deeper understanding of the skills and techniques required for a successful career in the animation industry. He will receive tuition on themes such as character creation, storyboarding, and scriptwriting.

This week, we are in awe of Amber in Year 9. Many find it difficult to pass a driving test on the first or even second attempt, yet Amber regularly competes in Autograss car racing competitions. We are pleased to announce that she won first place in each of her races at her last meeting. At just 13 years old, this is absolutely stunning. We will follow your career with great interest, Amber!

In Year 9, Joe has once again been selected for the Wales Football Regional Development Squad and is destined to become an accomplished player. The upcoming training event is in early December, and full international honours may well be the next step. Go for it, Joe!

On the football theme, well played and hard luck to our U13s Girls’ Football team, who fought hard against Ysgol Glan Clwyd this week but narrowly lost 6-5.

Last Saturday, Oscar from Year 8 represented Castell Alun in the National Schools League Ski Competition. Despite the wintry conditions at Llandudno ski slope, he achieved a fantastic second place overall. Brilliant stuff, Oscar! Your hard work and dedication at those long ski racing camps are truly paying off. We hope you qualify for the Welsh Alpine Championships in Switzerland in 2022.

Looking to next week, we will celebrate Children in Need Day on Friday, 19th November. All students are invited to wear non-uniform for a £1 donation via School Gateway. The following week, on Thursday, 25th November, we will hold a virtual Year 12 Parents’ Evening, and bookings will open soon using SchoolCloud as usual.

It looks like it’s going to remain dry over the weekend. Have a nice time.

See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
