School Blog (19/09/25)

At Castell Alun, we take pride in our strong sense of belonging and the way our students support one another, celebrating achievements big and small. Already we are celebrating inspiring moments that reflect our values and our commitment to Cynefin (a Welsh word meaning “the place where you feel you belong.”): from raising over £1,100 for Hope House at the Summer Fayre, where creativity, energy, and teamwork shone through, to seeing Year 9 student Jessica take the stage at the Royal Albert Hall in Theatretrain’s We’re Going to Change the World. These experiences not only showcase our students’ talents and generosity but also strengthen our community, reminding us all of how powerful it is when we come together to make a difference.

We are thrilled to announce that Castell Alun High School students have been shortlisted for the Young Volunteer(s) of the Year Award at the 2025 Keep Wales Tidy – Tidy Wales Awards!

The judging panel received an incredible number of nominations from across Wales. It recognises individuals, groups, and organisations who are working hard to keep our environment clean and green. Among so many inspiring entries, our students’ efforts stood out. They earned themselves a place on the final shortlist alongside just two other nominees in this category.

The winners will be revealed at the prestigious Tidy Wales Awards Ceremony at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on Thursday 2nd October. Whatever the outcome, we are already immensely proud of our students for their commitment, teamwork, and contribution to improving the local environment.

We would like to take a moment to recognise and thank Mr Jamie Rasmussen. He gives so much of his own time at lunchtimes and even during the school holidays to work with our dedicated volunteers. His commitment, energy, and passion provide our students with fantastic opportunities to develop their skills, give back to the community, and make a real difference.

Thanks to Mr Rasmussen’s guidance and support, our students are not only learning valuable lessons about teamwork and responsibility, but they are also helping to create a cleaner, greener and more caring school environment. We are truly grateful for all that he does – diolch yn fawr!

Llongyfarchiadau pawb – a fantastic achievement!

We are thrilled to share that Year 9 student Jessica will be taking part in Theatretrain’s spectacular show, We’re Going to Change the World, at the Royal Albert Hall this weekend!

This bold, high-energy production challenges its performers to explore an important question: What’s wrong with the world—and how do we fix it? Backed by a 16-piece orchestra and a powerful choir, the show features 29 unforgettable songs, taking the audience on a journey from hits like Uptown Funk to The Climb, with plenty of surprises along the way. Audiences can expect contemporary tunes, emotional moments, and a performance that will entertain, inspire, and move everyone in the hall.

Now in its 14th year at the Royal Albert Hall, Theatretrain is the UK’s leading performing arts company for young people. It has produced over 100 large-scale shows and giving young performers like Jessica the opportunity to shine on one of the country’s most iconic stages.

We couldn’t be prouder of Jessica and can’t wait to see her take the stage!

We are incredibly proud of Bethan (Year 9) who recently represented Wales in a British Tri event! Despite taking a fall on the bike, she showed amazing determination by getting straight back up and carrying on. Her hard work and resilience paid off, as her team finished as the fastest from Wales! Llongyfarchiadau mawr, Bethan – what an achievement!
