School Blog (20/05/22)

Welcome to the School Blog. Our examination students are coping remarkably well, considering that very few have undertaken formal external examinations in the past couple of years. Staff will give feedback on the WJEC and all examination papers to Qualifications Wales over the coming weeks. Therefore, we continue to monitor all assessments with close interest.

Students in Year 12 are now on examination leave. Year 11 will have their last school day next Thursday, and Year 13 on Friday. In previous years, we held a formal leaving ceremony for Year 11 students, inviting all parents. Unfortunately, this year we cannot facilitate this event in the same manner. Instead, we will hold a less formal celebration for students in-house on Thursday 26th May. Fortunately, we can hold our Year 13 Leavers’ Ceremony on Friday 27th May, and we look forward to seeing both parents and students to celebrate this milestone together.

A Modern Foreign Languages club has now been established in school every Monday at 3.25 pm in T15. This week, students from Year 7 and 8 designed postcards to send abroad. They tailored the postcards to the receivers and included Welsh phrases and facts. The postcards will be sent to the USA, Russia, Czech Republic, Taiwan, and Germany. Year 8 students writing to Germany included many sentences in the target language, impressing all language teachers. Over the next few weeks, the team will explore different cultures, play language games, and have a Spanish taster session. All Year 7 and 8 students are invited to join in!

Congratulations to all Year 7 students who have engaged with fundraising activities over the past few months, raising a whopping £755 for Cancer Research. We are incredibly proud of you, your efforts, and most importantly, your caring nature.

Well done to Robyn (Year 8) for taking first and second place in her canoe racing Division 2 competition at Llandysul last week. Long may the success and enjoyment continue!

In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, CAFA is holding a raffle for a luxury hamper of goodies including Prosecco, wine, coffee, teas, chocolates, biscuits, a Scentsy warmer, wax, and various vouchers. Tickets are £1 per entry and will be on sale until 26th May. The winner will be announced on Friday 27th May. Parents/carers can participate via School Gateway. Anyone can join the fun by entering through this link – Jubilee prize draw. CAFA has also just released their CAFA Newsletter (May 2022).

We have been asked to communicate an important message from Hope Community Council. Over the last couple of weeks, there has been evidence of small fires being set on the castle grounds in Caergwrle. This has caused concern for both the public and the safety of the ancient monument itself. The Police have been informed and wish all people in the locality to be aware that anybody involved in such incidents is liable to be charged with criminal damage.

See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
