Welcome back to the summer term! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Easter break. It’s been a wonderfully warm and sunny start to the term here at school, and there’s a real sense of energy and enthusiasm as we begin the final stretch of the academic year. With lots to look forward to over the coming weeks — from exams and achievements to trips, events, and celebrations — we’re excited to see what this term has in store.
Celebrating Milestones
This afternoon, we held our annual Year 11 Achievement Ceremony — a special occasion to reflect on the journey our students have taken during their time with us. With just three weeks remaining before they begin their final exams and take their next steps, this was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their growth, resilience, and many achievements.
We were thrilled to welcome former student Grace Davies, who delivered a truly inspiring talk to students and parents, sharing her experiences and accomplishments since leaving Castell Alun. The event was further enriched by two outstanding musical performances, highlighting the incredible talent and spirit within our school community.
As many of our Year 11s prepare to return in September to continue their studies in Sixth Form, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all parents and carers for the support, encouragement, and guidance you’ve provided throughout their journey so far. Your partnership plays such a vital role in their success, and we are truly grateful.
Supporting Success
Exams are now in full swing at Castell Alun, with students already completing their GCSE Art external assessments, alongside GCSE Spanish. It has been a busy and rewarding week for our A-Level Cymraeg students, with both Year 12 and Year 13 groups sitting their oral exams across Tuesday and Wednesday. These students have worked incredibly hard throughout the academic year to prepare, with many even coming in over the Easter break to practise with the Welsh department. Their broad smiles and positive feedback after speaking with the examiner were a true reflection of their confidence and love for the Welsh language — we couldn’t be prouder.
We’d like to wish all of our students the very best of luck as they continue through this important and often challenging period. Their focus, resilience and determination are a credit to them. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our dedicated staff, whose ongoing support and encouragement both in and beyond the classroom are vital to student success. We’re especially grateful to parents and carers — your guidance, patience and support make a big difference every day. Da iawn a phob lwc to all our learners as they continue their exam journey!
Future Star Shines

Calling all Britain’s Got Talent fans! We’re incredibly excited to share that one of our future students, Olly —who will be joining Year 7 in September—will be appearing on Britain’s Got Talent tomorrow evening. Olly wowed the judges with his electrifying rock medley, featuring classics from AC/DC, Van Halen, and Queen. He was even awarded the coveted Golden Buzzer! This is a fantastic achievement, and we know our whole Castell Alun community will be cheering him on and voting for him. Good luck, Olly — we’re all behind you!
School Council joins Young Flintshire Launch
During the Easter break, Year 9 student, Idele, proudly represented Castell Alun at the Welsh National Swimming Championships in Swansea. Competing against top young swimmers in the country, Idele delivered an outstanding performance with several personal bests.
In the 14–15 years 100m Breaststroke, she finished 10th overall — an incredible result in her age group.
She also finished 14th in both the 14–15 200m Breaststroke and the 14–16 200m Individual Medley. In the 100m Medley Relay, Idele’s team secured an excellent 6th place finish — a brilliant result for Year 9 students.
It was especially impressive as the event was in the 14–16 age category, with her whole team still in Year 9.
Well done, Idele — we’re incredibly proud of your dedication and success!

Year 7 student Henry is a keen hockey player who dedicates lots of time to training — it’s clearly paying off! One of the teams he plays for, Chester Hockey Club, recently reached the North West Finals — and they won! The team will now go on to compete in the National Finals on 17th May in Nottingham. A huge congratulations to Henry and his teammates — we’ll be cheering you on all the way!

Well done to our fantastic Year 8 and 9 girls who took part in the Chwaraeonurdd 7s rugby competition yesterday! After a determined group stage performance, winning one of three matches, the team reached the Plate semi-finals. They played brilliantly against Syr Huw Owen in a closely contested match, narrowly losing 22–15. A great display of teamwork, resilience, and school spirit — da iawn, girls!
