Returning to School
Welcome to the School Blog. We’re thrilled to announce that starting Monday, we’ll be welcoming Year 13 and Year 11 back to school! Following that, Year 12 and Year 10 will also return, with Year 7, 8, and 9 scheduled for a day each in the final week before the Easter Holidays. We’re gearing up for a full return of all students after the break.
Important Updates
Several communications have been sent home detailing the return process. We urge both students and parents/carers to review these carefully. While our health and safety protocols remain robust, we need students to refresh their understanding of these, especially the Home School Agreement, which outlines behaviour expectations.
New Measures
One significant change is the requirement for 3-ply face masks in all communal areas and classrooms. If a medical exemption applies, please inform us via email so we can adjust seating plans accordingly.
Additionally, we’re offering optional Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) for Years 10-13. Students interested should return the signed consent form. More details on LFTs are available on our website from Monday.
Continuing Safety Protocols
As we look forward to seeing our students, it’s crucial they adhere to safety measures: wearing masks, hand sanitizing, maintaining bubbles, social distancing (as much as possible), following one-way systems, and listening to teachers’ instructions. These protocols are detailed in our Risk Assessment on the school website.
Addressing Concerns
We understand that returning to school after such a long break can be daunting for some students. Rest assured, we are committed to supporting all students and addressing any concerns. However, students feeling apprehensive should speak with their group tutor to receive the support they need.
Exam Assessments
For those completing assessments instead of exams, we understand this can be stressful. Therefore will be no immediate flood of tests; assessments will be staggered and scheduled with advance notice. We’ll monitor assessment schedules and students’ well-being to ensure a balanced approach.
Free School Meals
For families receiving free school meals, please check Flintshire’s website for the latest arrangements. Payments for the two-week holiday will be provided. Details can be found here.
Hockey Wales Champions!
Congratulations to our Hockey team on winning the Virtual Welsh Cup! We narrowly beat Ysgol Maes Garmon in a close final, thanks to votes from around the world. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us! The prize money will go towards new hockey equipment, and we can’t wait to use it.
World Book Day
Last week’s World Book Day was a hit, with activities like mini saga writing and a ‘Masked Reader’ competition. Year 7 students wrote animal-perspective mini sagas, while Year 8 students included as many book titles as possible in their 100-word stories. Currently English Learning Area is busy judging these entries, the winners will be announced next week and we will let you know the results in the next School Blog.
The ‘Masked Reader’ competition saw teachers don creative masks to read passages from their favorite books. The mystery of whether James Bond and Donkey were the same person had everyone guessing!
In Conclusion
As we move forward, let’s remember that resilience in the face of challenges is key. Our students are developing valuable skills that will serve them well in the future. Let’s keep pushing forward and hoping for brighter days ahead.
Enjoy your weekend and let’s keep aiming high, whether for the Triple Crown or the Grand Slam!
