Settling Back into School Life
Welcome to the School Blog. Now that all year groups have settled back well into school, the fine weather is clearly helping everyone enjoy time in the fresh air when not in classrooms.
Year 7 Parents’ Evening
Yesterday evening, we held our virtual Year 7 Parents’ Evening, and it seems this method has been well received, despite occasional teething problems. Later in the year, we will review our procedures to determine the best way to conduct future Parents’ Evenings. Thank you to all Year 7 parents and carers. I am told the conversations were supportive, informative, and productive.
Lateral Flow Testing Reminder
Regarding the proposed Lateral Flow Testing for students in Years 7 to 9, please remember that these tests are entirely voluntary. Soon, we will send out the required consent forms and information leaflets detailing our approach. We hope to begin this process within a week.
Celebrating Success
It is wonderful to share some recent success stories:
Year 8 Football Training
On Wednesday, a group of Year 8 girls completed training for the Football Association of Wales Girls’ Football Programme. They participated in a virtual session aimed at promoting and coaching girls’ football. Additionally, the girls are invited to a virtual Q&A session next week with a Welsh Ladies international player.
Furthermore, we are excited to see how these initiatives inspire our students and foster a greater love for the sport.
Budding Writer in Year 8
Callum, a talented Year 8 writer, has had one of his short stories chosen for inclusion in a new book showcasing young writers. Look out for ‘Unsolved UK Tales,’ scheduled for publication on 11th June 2021. Fantastic job, Callum!
Year 9 Pen Friends
Year 9 students received letters from their pen friends at the ‘College Louis-Augustin Bosc.’ Previously, they had exchanged information during the Autumn term via a secure internet site. Now, they are excited to continue building these connections and sharing more about their experiences. Now, the class will write back about life in North Wales and their local villages and towns, sharing their experiences and cultural insights.
Year 10 Football Star
Seren of Year 10 was in action for TNS Under 16 Girls at the weekend. She is a gifted footballer and won the player of the day award, helping her team triumph 3–0 against Ercall in Shropshire. Great stuff, Seren!
Year 13 Entrepreneur
David in Year 13 has become a Youth Entrepreneurship Agent for Big Ideas Wales. He regularly attends Business Bootcamp seminars facilitated by the Welsh Government. Big Ideas Wales encourages young people to be entrepreneurial and helps those interested in starting a business. Indeed, David has been given a business mentor to help develop his own business, which is currently top secret! With the guidance and support from his mentor, we are eager to see how his venture unfolds. He hopes to pursue his business proposal after Sixth Form studies. Next stop, Dragons Den!
More information for this excellent scheme for future entrepreneurs can be found here.
Enjoy the Weekend
Thankfully, the lovely weather looks set to continue into the weekend. I hope you have a nice one!
