End of Half Term and Exam Updates
Welcome to the School Blog. We have reached the end of one of our longest half terms, and the examination season is well underway. To date, students in Years 11, 12, and 13 have already completed some exams, and we are pleased to report that behaviour has been excellent. Expectations remain high for students to fulfil their potential at Castell Alun.
Year 11 Final Day
Yesterday, our Year 11 students completed their final day in mainstream schooling. Despite the weather, we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon signing shirts and sharing stories about recent activities. Although there are more exams to sit, we will cherish our memories of Year 11 and eagerly anticipate their Leavers’ Prom in just a few weeks.
Year 13 Ceremony
Our Year 13 Leaving Ceremony takes place this afternoon. We are all eager to hear the message from Mr. Kevin Davies, our guest speaker. This year group has been exceptional, and while we are sad to see them go, we are thrilled with their progress and future plans. As someone once said, “you never really leave Castell Alun,” and we look forward to staying in touch and celebrating their future successes.
Celebrating Successes
We have a number of successes to share this week:
Rounders
It is fantastic to see our Year 7 girls’ rounders team enjoying their sport. They played against Mold Alun on Play Evening after school on Tuesday. Well done, everyone—we are very proud of you!
Matilda the Musical
Amelie and Ava (Year 7) performed in Matilda the Musical with Theatre Gemz on Sunday. Amelie portrayed Miss Trunchbull with impressive conviction, while Ava sang beautifully as Matilda. Both girls are passionate about the performing arts and have worked hard. We are proud of these sisters and will eagerly follow their future theatrical roles.
Anthea Bell Translation Competition
Congratulations to Olivia (Year 9) and Alexandra (Year 10), who were commended for their outstanding translations in Spanish and French. The MFL department is delighted to see students using their language skills beyond the classroom.
Football Achievements
Aiden, Harry, and Ethan (Year 10) played key roles in the Flintshire U15 boys’ football team, winning the Welsh Schoolboys’ Under 15s cup against RCT at TNS football stadium. In additional football news, Year 11 boys Will, Charlie, Noah, Jack, Celyn, Cal, Zach, and Rhys won the NEWFA cup final with Hawarden Rangers Under 16s. They are now undefeated in the Flintshire League and have become cup champions for the second year running. Llongyfarchiadau!
Netball Success
Lucy and Macy (both Year 8) played for Deeside Netball Club Under 13s in the National Club Under 14s finals in Cardiff. Their team came close to overall glory, finishing as the top 4 clubs in Wales. This is a remarkable achievement, particularly as they played in the year group above.
Rugby Triumph
Our U13 Girls’ Rugby Team reached the final of the bowl competition at the Eryri Cup, competing against a strong Emrys Ap Iwan school from Conwy. Castell Alun won the match 32-29, and the girls deserve great accolades for their performances.
Tennis Victory
Congratulations to our Year 8, 9, and 10 Tennis Team for winning the Flintshire schools round of the regional tennis qualifiers. They now advance to represent our county in the next round of this prestigious event.
Upcoming Events
CAFA (Castell Alun Friends Association) will hold another Sound Bath evening on Tuesday, 18th June. Due to the popularity of this event, it is crucial that guests pre-book. Please follow the instructions on the poster for booking details.
We will now break for a week. Upon our return on Monday, 3rd June, we welcome Year 12 back as they resume their studies after their examinations. Parents of Year 8 students are also invited to join us for Year 8 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, 6th June, from 4 pm until 6:30 pm.
See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
