School Blog (26/02/21)

Welcome to the School Blog. As we start a new half term, I hope you’re feeling a bit refreshed and that students are ready to dive back into their learning. I understand that despite our best efforts, not everyone will feel completely recharged. Your commitment during these challenging times is truly commendable, and I want you to know that your best is always enough.

We’re anticipating a return to the school building for some students on 15th March, following the Welsh Government’s announcement. This is promising news, and we look forward to more details about this plan as they become available. In the meantime, we continue with remote learning. Students should attend their lessons according to the timetable, engaging with live streams, pre-recorded sessions, and set work. Teachers are available online during these times to assist with any questions. If there are issues, please inform us so we can address them promptly. Your feedback, including the comments from the recent Years 7-10 questionnaire, is invaluable as we strive to adapt our practices to meet diverse learning needs.

It’s exciting to see significant progress on our new building project. Despite recent poor weather, the construction is on track for completion by September. The building frame is up, insulation panels are installed, floors and stairs are laid, and the roof is being fitted. We’re eager to share more updates and appreciate your patience, especially those living close by.

Dydd Gwyl Dewi (St David’s Day) is a highlight in our calendar. The Welsh department has organised a special online assembly and various competitions for KS3 students. The standard of entries has been excellent, and winners will be announced next week. Keep an eye out for the showcase in next Friday’s School Blog. Fun and interactive Welsh lessons are also planned to celebrate our country and patron saint.

Next Friday, 5th March, is the deadline for Sixth Form applications and GCSE option choices. All relevant information is available on the school website. If there are any uncertainties or questions, students are encouraged to reach out to their subject teachers. The Year 9 Parents’ Evening should have provided valuable guidance for these important decisions.

Our PE department has done a fantastic job in the Welsh National Hockey Cup, which is virtual this year. Castell Alun has progressed to the semi-finals after defeating Welshpool High and Ysgol Llangynwyd. We’re now facing Mold Alun, with votes crucial for our success. Support us by voting on Twitter via this link before Sunday. Winning this round could lead to a final with a financial reward for the department and local bragging rights!

Exciting plans are in place for World Book Day next week. The English team has organised some fantastic activities and guest readers, which we’re sure will be a hit with students. Stay tuned for more details.

I will be away from school next week due to the recent passing of my parents. For any urgent matters, please contact Mr Carl Pugh, Mrs Gail Davies, or any member of the Senior Leadership Team. Miss Sarah Edwards will continue to update the Blog. I am grateful for my colleagues’ support and will return on Monday, 8th March.

My parents were guided by the principles of the song ‘This Little Light of Mine’. I believe that each of us has something special to offer, and together, we can make a difference. Thank you for your support in guiding our students through these times.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the match!
