As we return from a refreshing half-term break, it has been wonderful to welcome our school community back for what has already been a positive and productive week. The slightly warmer weather and the first daffodils beginning to bloom are hopeful signs that spring is on its way.
Yesterday, we were delighted to host our Year 9 Parents’ Evening. Importantly, this milestone supports students and families as they begin considering GCSE options and reflecting on progress so far. It was fantastic to see so many constructive conversations taking place between parents, students and teachers. Consequently, everyone continues working together to support the next important steps in our students’ journeys.
Sharing the Joy of Reading: Sixth Form Book Collection for Our Community
The Sixth Form Charity Committee is organising a book collection over the coming fortnight to support members of our local community. All donated books will go to Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices or Pendine Park Care Home.
We hope this initiative will bring comfort, enjoyment and companionship to those who may benefit from the gift of a good book. Therefore, we would be very grateful for donations suitable for children, teenagers or adults.
Students can bring donations into school and hand them directly to Miss Jones in T11, or place them in the large Book Donation Box located in Reception. Even a single donated book can make a real difference.
Money Matters
Rhian Jones from Student Finance Wales delivered an engaging and informative session on university finance options to our Year 13 learners on Tuesday 24th February. The session included specific financial information for the 2026/2027 cohort, the application process and where to seek further advice.
The presentation is available on the Year 13 Google Classroom Noticeboard so students can revisit key information. In addition, contact details are provided for those with specific queries regarding their applications. Diolch yn fawr to Student Finance Wales for explaining everything so clearly.
Sporting Updates

We are delighted to share that our U15 football team secured an impressive victory in the quarter-final of the Welsh Cup against a strong Newtown side. It was a dramatic and hard-fought match.
Unfortunately, the game was marked by a significant injury to one of our players. We send him our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Despite this setback, the team showed tremendous resilience and determination to maintain their 2–0 lead and book their place in the semi-finals.
Upcoming

The resort is situated in the Italian Alps and offers skiing suitable for beginners through to advanced standards. Furthermore, its high altitude helps ensure good snow conditions.
30/6/26: Flintshire Pride Event at Castell Alun
We are delighted to host this year’s celebration during Pride Awareness Month. On the day, we will welcome students and staff from across Flintshire for workshops, a marketplace and a range of activities. Further details will follow in due course, so please save the date.

Lost Property

Each Friday, photographs of unclaimed items will be shared on the School Blog and on Google Classroom. Students should speak to their group tutors to arrange collection during registration or another suitable time.
At the end of each half term, any remaining items will be donated to charity. Consequently, we hope this system will help everyone reunite with their belongings more quickly and easily.
In Closing
As we move further into the term, we remain grateful for the continued support of our families and the commitment of our students and staff. From important conversations about future pathways to acts of generosity through our book collection and sporting success, it has been a week that reflects our shared values. We look forward to the opportunities the weeks ahead will bring.
