School Blog (16/05/25)

Welcome to this week’s School Blog! The sun is still shining, and our school community continues to shine just as brightly. With GCSE and A-Level exams in full flow, we are incredibly proud of how our students are conducting themselves—showing true respect for the process, determination to do their best, and honesty in all they do. Their focus and maturity are a credit to them and to our school values. We wish each and every one of them the very best of luck in the weeks ahead!

Over the weekend, we marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day), a moment of reflection and gratitude for those who fought and sacrificed so much during the Second World War. As a school, we held a minute’s silence to honour the memory of all who served, and especially those who lost their lives. It’s vital that we continue to remember the individuals behind the history—their courage, hardship and resilience—so that the lessons of the past are never forgotten.

In school, our Year 9 students have been deepening their understanding of conflict through their study of World War I. As part of their history project, they were asked to carry out local research into soldiers from the First World War, choosing their own creative ways to present what they found. The results were truly inspiring, from a handmade crochet bouquet of remembrance flowers, to handmade and iced cakes, to an original rap that Kate from 9T confidently performed for her classmates.

Studying past conflicts not only helps students develop historical knowledge, but also encourages empathy, critical thinking and a deeper appreciation for peace. Through projects like these, we hope to ensure that younger generations continue to remember and learn from those who came before them.
