You should not normally take your child on holiday in term time as it can be disruptive both to your child’s education and to the school.

Holidays in term time can only be agreed by the Headteacher or someone with appropriate authority. Schools can use their discretion to grant up to 10 days’ authorised absence in a school year if:

the parent the child normally lives with applies to the school in advance of the holiday

there are special reasons for the holiday.

Schools can only agree to more than 10 school days’ absence in any school year in exceptional circumstances. The schools must judge each holiday request on a case by case basis. They can take into consideration:

the time of year for the proposed trip

if it’s near any exam dates

your child’s overall attendance pattern

any holidays already taken in the school year

the age and stage of education of your child

your wishes

the ability of your child to catch up the work that they have missed

the reason why you are taking the time off during term time.

Schools should not take into consideration:

availability of cheap holidays

availability of desired accommodation

poor weather experienced in school holiday periods

overlap with the beginning or end of term.

Our Academic Year

The academic year kicks off with the Autumn Term, typically starting in early September. This term features essential Staff Training Days, equipping our educators for the year ahead. Students eagerly anticipate a well-deserved break during the Half Term (Autumn), creating the perfect opportunity for rest and quality family time.

Following the Autumn Term, the Christmas Holidays allow families to gather and celebrate the festive season. This break generally spans from late December to early January, giving students the chance to recharge for the new year.

As the school year resumes, the Spring Term commences in early January. Key dates in this term include additional Staff Training Days and another refreshing Half Term (Spring) break, which provides a much-needed pause before the school year concludes.

During the Spring Term, Year 12 students have a designated study leave period to prepare for their upcoming examinations. This time proves crucial for focused study and effective revision.

Next, our Summer Term usually begins in late April and continues until mid-July. This term often includes a Half Term (Summer) break, offering students another opportunity to unwind before the academic year ends. Ultimately, the Summer Holidays commence in mid-July and last until early September, giving families a chance to relax and enjoy their summer together.
