School Blog (17/12/21)

Welcome to the School Blog. A long and positive term draws to a close on Tuesday next week. Although we would prefer to see the entire school family together to celebrate Christmas in our usual manner with a whole school assembly, this was not possible. We have prioritised the health and wellbeing of staff, students, and their families.

You will now know that schools in Flintshire have redesignated 6th and 7th January as ‘Planning and Preparation Days’ for staff only, and we hope to see all students return to the classroom on Monday, 10th January. We will keep in touch with you regarding any further key information using our website, social media feeds, and this blog as necessary. The road ahead might be bumpy again, but we will walk it together. We hope the Christmas message will still inspire hope for many.

This week, our Year 10 Welsh Baccalaureate students raised a great deal of money for Hope House through a Christmas market conducted in a COVID-secure manner. We will share exact figures soon, but in the meantime, a big thank you to all students and their families for their efforts and engagement with this skills challenge.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the ‘Through the Decades’ performance today. It’s incredible to witness the wealth of talent among our students. Brilliant job, everyone, and thank you to all the staff involved in this venture!

We have now completed our collection of essential items for the local homeless. The Sixth Form Charity Committee and Year 11 Enterprise Club collected 60 essential bags. These bags are being delivered to SHARE in Chester and will be given to local homeless people during the winter months. This fantastic effort involved everyone at Castell Alun, particularly Katie, Emily, Alex, Harriet, Gabbie, and George. Life can be tough, especially now, but our students have shown great kindness.

We are very proud of Louise, Izzy, Alex, and Freddy (Year 11) for their wonderful work supporting the Foodbank. These students collected a record-breaking 105 kilos of food and £74 in cash. Partnering with Hope Parish Church, our students served tea and mince pies, with Freddie enhancing the festive spirit with Christmas songs on the piano. Thank you, everyone.

Robyn (Year 8) has been selected for a place on the Canoe Wales National Talent programme, and we are excited to monitor her progress through the rigorous training camps. Additionally, Tyler (Year 9) is one of the few swimmers who qualified to race at the Welsh National Championships and Commonwealth Games qualifier in Swansea this December. Our students are incredibly talented!

All that remains is to wish you all a peaceful, restful, and safe Christmas and renewed hope and energy for the New Year! See you back here soon for the first School Blog of 2022!
