School Blog (26/05/23)

Welcome to the School Blog. Today marks a significant occasion with our Year 13 Leavers’ Ceremony. This event is always a highlight of the school year, but today carries even more weight. Mr. Kevin Davies, our Assistant Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form Studies, will deliver his final address at this gathering.

After nearly 42 years of dedicated service, Mr. Davies’s beloved Sixth Form students couldn’t resist the opportunity to make today’s proceedings memorable. Accessing his office this morning presented a challenge for Mr. Davies. It’s fair to say he was completely unprepared for what awaited him after finally getting in.

We look forward to welcoming the families of Year 13 students this afternoon. We also wish each student the very best for their examinations and the exciting journeys that lie ahead. Year 13 has been a remarkable year group, and we are immensely proud of them all.

Yesterday, we broke all records with attendance at the Year 11 Leavers’ Ceremony in the Sports Hall. It was truly wonderful to come together in an uninhibited manner once again, celebrating with contributions from Georgia, Bethan, Natasha, Euan, and our Year 11 Band—Theo, Nathan, Liam, and McKenzie. We were delighted to welcome Mr. Carl Pugh back to school as our guest speaker, who delivered a message of encouragement and support in his own inimitable style.

A special diolch must go to Mrs. Lisa Allen (Student Development Manager for Year 11) for her dedicated work with this year group over the years, as well as to her predecessor, Miss Beth Jones. Our heartfelt thanks also go to Mrs. Ceri Williams and Mrs. Sandra Flackett for the countless hours spent behind the scenes assisting with preparations. Mr. Kevin Davies led the ceremony with his usual professionalism, and many other staff members contributed to making the event possible and enjoyable for all. Year 11 students are now more than halfway through their examinations and are eager to complete this assessment period and celebrate together at the Year 11 Prom on Thursday, 29th June.

We kindly ask parents and carers of Year 8 and 9 students to complete a short questionnaire about their child’s experience of school. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us evaluate and improve our school. Please submit the questionnaire by Monday, 5th June, using the following links:

While extra-curricular activities have taken a back seat for many students during the busy examination period, we must celebrate some fantastic achievements. A couple of weeks ago, we recognised Callum, Rhys, Noah, Jack, Will, and Celyn for winning the Flintshire League with Hawarden Rangers U15s. This week, they also won the North East Wales Football Association Cup for their age category, triumphing 4-2 against a very strong Chirk team. This is a huge achievement for all the boys—great job once again, lads!

May we remind all Year 12 students that school recommences on Monday, 5th June. We are happy to share that a staff versus Year 13 BTEC Sports students rounders match this week ended in an ‘honourable’ draw.

We would like to thank you for your continued support over the half term. Let’s hope we can all enjoy the lovely weather over the coming days.
