New Year 7 Welcome Day
Welcome to the School Blog. What a delight it was on Wednesday to meet so many of our new Year 7 students for September. The sun shone all day, enhancing everyone’s experience as they explored our lessons, campus, and made new friends. We are confident that you will all be very happy at Castell Alun. While no one is wishing the summer away, we eagerly anticipate getting to know you better and seeing where your learning journey will take you.
Congratulations to MFL Students
The MFL department is thrilled to congratulate all students who participated in the Anthea Bell Translation Competition. With over 16,000 students from across the UK taking part, a massive llongyfarchiadau goes to Alex (Year 10) and Olivia (Year 9) for receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ award for their translations in French and Spanish. This week, they received their certificates, and we are hopeful for more success stories in the future. Girls, we are very proud of you—da iawn!
Healthy Eating Week
Last week was National Healthy Eating Week across Welsh schools. Using posters from the British Foundation for Nutrition, students and staff learned about hydration, the concept of ‘5 a day,’ and healthy foods and recipes. The Health & Wellbeing department highlighted our hydration stations throughout the school and encouraged staff to try infused water, herbal teas, and fruit. The refreshing taste was a great way to end the academic year!
Athletics Success
In other news, we recently attended the North East Wales athletics competition, representing Flintshire. We are proud to report that our Junior Girls team won and qualified for the Wales Schools Competition in Brecon in July. Amazing job, everyone—llongyfarchiadau!
‘Matilda’ Musical Production
As mentioned earlier, we are excited to present our version of Matilda on Wednesday, 10th July, and Thursday, 11th July, in the evenings. We encourage as many of you as possible to come and see the show, which will primarily feature lower school students. The talent on display will be impressive – Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment!
Swimming Achievements
Finally, di iawn to Rhiannon (Year 8) and Bella (Year 7), who competed for Wrexham Swimming Club this week. Both girls competed in two races each, achieving personal best performances. Rhiannon finished 4th in the 100m Breaststroke, and Bella won two bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke. We are incredibly proud of both girls and look forward to seeing their future achievements.
The weather seems to be improving. See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
