Welcome Back and Exciting News
Welcome to the School Blog. We trust you have had a restful Easter holiday, despite the inclement weather. We have now embarked upon the beginning of our summer term, and things in school are back up to full speed!
Focus on Examination Preparation
Our immediate focus is to ensure that all examination class students achieve their potential, regardless of their ability. However, the school remains a busy place with much more to do besides final examination preparations.
Year 10 Ski Trip Highlights
We are thrilled to share that our Year 10 students had an absolutely fantastic time during their ski trip over the Easter break. Despite Italy being a fair distance away, the entertainment and fun flowed from the beginning to the end of the trip.
Both staff and students enjoyed fine skiing conditions, excellent food (albeit often pasta and pizza), and a variety of fun activities. Highlights included the fancy dress event, bowling, and the cinema, among others. We are grateful to all the staff who made this event possible and extend our sincere thanks to Miss Sarah Edwards and her team for ensuring the trip was a success once again.
Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
We wish the very best to all upper school students embarking on the final leg of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition today. With strong participation numbers, we extend our good wishes to those involved in the next trip as well.
Upcoming Examinations
Next week, we will conduct Art practical examinations and Welsh oral examinations, along with a range of other exams. This pattern will continue for the next ten school weeks. We urge any student who finds their examination preparation stressful to speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
Year 6 Transition Events
It was wonderful to welcome several Year 6 students from Estyn, Derwen, Derwenfa, Abermorddu, and some from out of area yesterday. The students thoroughly enjoyed their time at Castell Alun, participating in activities in the PE Department, Performing Arts area, and Creative Arts. We value these occasions highly and aim to ensure that students enjoy themselves as we get to know each other better. We will host another transition event for Year 6 students from other schools next week.
Sixth Form Football Team
On Tuesday this week, the Sixth Form Boys’ Football Team played in the semi-finals of the Wales FA Cup. They were 2-0 up at half-time and playing exceptionally well, although Ysgol Glantaf came back to win 3-2 in the dying seconds of the match. Hard luck, lads, but you put up a tremendous performance!
Golfing Success
Well done to Annabel (Year 13) for her recent victory in the Delamere Gold Comboy Scratch. Annabel’s scholarship to the USA is now just around the corner, and she is clearly ready for the experience. The story doesn’t end there, as Annabel’s brother Michael has also achieved great success in a South Wales Golf competition. The signs are promising that his talent could take him further afield as well.
Fire Alarm Practice
At some point during the next couple of school weeks, we will hold a fire alarm practice. As usual, there is no cause for concern, and students will receive instructions from their teacher when the bell sounds.
CAFA Quiz Night
Finally, our hardworking friends at CAFA will host a quiz night on Friday, 19th April, starting at 7pm. Everyone is invited to join the fun. Tickets are available from £2 per person or £10 per team (maximum of 6 participants).
See you back here soon for the next School Blog!
