Welcome to this week’s school blog! We’ve had another exciting and productive few days here at school, where our core values of respect, determination, and honesty have been at the heart of everything we do. From the passionate dedication of our students preparing for the upcoming production of Our Day Out, to Year 13’s insightful trip exploring prison life and rehabilitation, it’s clear that our learners continue to demonstrate these values in all their efforts. Read on to learn more about these experiences and the many achievements that reflect the respect, determination, and honesty of our wonderful students.
Year 13 Prison/Rehabilitation Trip

A group of 40 Year 13 students recently took part in an insightful trip designed to give them a real understanding of prison life and explore the question of whether prisons can truly rehabilitate offenders, which ties into their upcoming exam in June. During the visit, the students were given a guided tour by ex-prison officers, who provided firsthand knowledge and personal experiences of working in the prison system. In addition to the tour, the students had the chance to challenge themselves with an escape room activity, which added an element of teamwork and problem-solving to the day. This trip offered a valuable and thought-provoking learning experience that will no doubt enhance their understanding of this important topic.
Excitement Builds for Our Day Out
Our highly anticipated production of Willy Russell’s ‘Our Day Out’ is fast approaching, and excitement is building across the school. Our talented students and dedicated staff have been working incredibly hard over the past few months to bring this fantastic play to life. With final rehearsals underway and the finishing touches being perfected, the cast and crew are ready to deliver a truly memorable performance.
‘Our Day Out‘ is a heart-warming and humorous play that captures the experiences of a group of schoolchildren from Liverpool as they embark on a fun-filled trip to the countryside. The cast have done an incredible job in capturing the spirit and energy of the play, and we are certain the audience will be thoroughly entertained.
The show promises to be a wonderful evening of entertainment. We would love for as many people as possible to come along and support our students. There are still tickets available here so don’t miss out! We look forward to welcoming you to what is set to be a fantastic performance.
Supporting Our Students
Our Year 10 and 11 students are working incredibly hard as they prepare for their upcoming Welsh oral exams, which begin next week. With over 400 students undertaking these assessments over the next two weeks, we are extremely proud of their dedication and commitment to improving their Welsh-speaking skills. Their effort in preparing for these important exams reflects not only their determination to succeed academically but also the pride they have in learning and using the Welsh language. It is fantastic to see so many students embracing the opportunity to develop their confidence in speaking Welsh, and we wish them all the very best of luck as they take on this challenge. Keep up the hard work – we are proud of you all!
World Book Day Door Designs

As we continue to celebrate World Book Day, we are thrilled to share even more incredible images of the wonderful doors that have been created and displayed across the school. Each door reflects the creativity, effort and enthusiasm of both staff and students. From vibrant illustrations and famous quotes to scenes from classic novels, the designs truly showcase our school’s passion for reading. A huge well done to everyone who has contributed to making this year’s World Book Day celebrations so memorable!
Sporting Updates

A huge congratulations to Amelie, Ava, Caitlin and Annie in Year 8. They have attained a fantastic achievement in the North Wales Badminton Tournament. The team performed brilliantly, securing 3rd place out of 10 schools and proudly bringing home medals. The girls had a great day competing at Deeside on Wednesday 12th March and were thrilled with their success. Well done to all involved – a fantastic effort!

We are incredibly proud of the many talents our students continue to nurture outside of school. Their commitment to training, dedication to their passions, and ability to balance these achievements alongside their studies is truly inspiring. Whether it’s in sports, music, performing arts, or other areas, their hard work and determination never go unnoticed. Well done to all those performing at the weekend – we are all behind you!

Congratulations to Shay on achieving his black belt in Shotokan Karate on 3rd March 2025! Shay trains at the Bluecoat Shotokan Karate Academy in Chester (formerly the Cheshire & North Wales Shotokan Academy). He follows a proud family tradition of excellence in the sport. His great uncle, Sensei Fennell (6th Dan), continues to inspire as an Instructor and Examiner in Shotokan Karate—even at nearly 80 years old! With only around 5% of martial arts students reaching black belt status, this is an incredible achievement. We are extremely proud of Shay’s dedication and hard work.
In Closing
As we reflect on another busy and successful week, we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our students in all their endeavors. We look forward to many more achievements and exciting events to come. Diolch for reading, and we wish everyone a great week ahead.
Mwynhewch y penwythnos – Have a wonderful weekend
