Welcome to this week’s School Blog. It has been another busy and positive week at Castell Alun, with plenty to celebrate and share. This week, we are delighted to highlight Olly’s continued success in the world of performance, reflect on our Theme for the Week as students learn more about their rights through the UNCRC, and celebrate staff coming together to raise money for Jeans for Genes Day. We also have some important dates and events coming up as we continue to settle into the new school year.
Understanding Our Rights
This week, our Theme for the Week – Thema ar gyfer yr Wythnos, has focused on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau’r Plentyn (CCUHP). The UNCRC sets out the rights that every child and young person should have, including the right to be safe, healthy, listened to, treated fairly and to receive an education. During registration, students have been learning about these rights, why they are important and how they apply both in school and in the wider world. Throughout the year, we will return to the UNCRC, exploring different rights and helping students understand how these connect to their own lives, responsibilities and experiences.
Olly Takes to the Screen!
It’s great to keep up to date with the performing journey of Olly in Year 8, who many will remember from his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. Olly can now be seen in Andy & The Band: Rock Star School – Series 2, showing on CBBC at 5.45pm and available on BBC iPlayer. The series has 10 episodes, with Olly appearing in episodes 1, 4 and 10. It’s fantastic to see him continuing to develop his talents and enjoy new opportunities in the world of performance!
Supporting Jeans for Genes Day
Today, staff at Castell Alun are proudly supporting Jeans for Genes Day by swapping their usual workwear for denim and raising money for this important cause. Jeans for Genes is a national campaign that supports children and families living with genetic conditions, helping to fund services and organisations that can make a real difference to their lives. As well as raising vital funds, the day helps to increase awareness and understanding of genetic conditions. A huge thank you to all our staff who have donated and taken part today – a great example of our school community coming together to support others.

Lost Property
A reminder that each Friday, photographs of all unclaimed lost property are shared on the School Blog for parents and carers to view, as well as on Google Classroom for students to check. If students recognise an item, they should speak to their group tutor to arrange collection during registration or at another suitable time during the school day. Any items that remain unclaimed at the end of each half term will be donated to charity, so please do take a look each week to see if you spot anything familiar!
In Closing
As another busy week comes to a close, thank you to our students, staff, families and wider school community for your continued support. It is always wonderful to see the achievements of our young people alongside the many ways our school community comes together to learn, contribute and support others. We hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable weekend, and we look forward to another positive week ahead.
