School Blog (20/09/24)

Welcome to this week’s School Blog!

It’s been a whirlwind of activity, and we’re proud of how busy and productive our school community has been. Our students and staff have truly embodied the spirit of hard work and collaboration. This is through engaging classroom lessons, group projects, extracurricular activities, and sports events. We’ve seen inspiring achievements, creative ideas come to life, and plenty of learning and growth throughout the week.

Our extracurricular sports timetable has officially begun, offering a wide range of activities for students to get involved in. These sports not only promote physical health but also align with the Curriculum for Wales. This is by fostering key skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership. Through participation in sports, students can develop their well-being and personal confidence, supporting the curriculum’s focus on creating healthy, confident individuals who are ready to lead fulfilling lives. We encourage all students to take part and make the most of these enriching opportunities!

Our school is committed to enhancing our awareness and understanding of equality and diversity. Therefore we are working towards achieving the Rainbow Flag Award. This week, we were delighted to welcome Anna from The Proud Trust, who delivered an insightful staff training session. Her guidance is helping us create an inclusive environment where all students and staff feel valued and respected. This training is an important step in our ongoing journey to celebrate diversity. We want to ensure that everyone in our school community can thrive authentically and confidently.

This week, our Year 11 assembly was visited by our Careers Wales Advisor, Louise Ellis. Louise provided invaluable guidance on the various options and next steps available to our students. Louise showcased various pathways, from further education and apprenticeships to employment opportunities, that empower students to reach their future goals. Her advice and expertise have given our Year 11s a clearer understanding of what lies ahead. They also now have an insight in to how to make informed decisions about their post-16 choices. We are grateful for her support as our students navigate this important stage of their education and career planning.

As usual at this time of year, we will hold our New Intake Open Evening on Thursday 26th September, starting at 6.30pm. This evening provides an excellent opportunity for those considering joining our happy school to come along and visit subject areas, whilst also attending a talk from the Headteacher and vital members of our Year 7 pastoral team. The evening will be fun and informative and we’d love you to join us. For anyone who cannot make it and wishes to visit the school, please book a place for a guided tour on Friday 27th September on 01978 760238.

We are thrilled to celebrate Emily’s remarkable achievement at the British Ju-Jitsu National Championships on August 31st. Competing in four categories, Emily (Year 9) not only excelled but secured gold medals in all events. Emily earned her the title of British Champion in four disciplines for the second consecutive year. Her dedication and skill are truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder of her outstanding success! Llongfarchiadau!
