School Blog (27/09/24)

Welcome to this week’s School Blog!

We’re excited to share the latest updates, achievements, and upcoming events from our vibrant school community.

The school Open Evening and morning sessions were a great success, with strong attendance from prospective students and their families. The event provided a welcoming atmosphere where visitors could engage with staff, tour the facilities, and experience the school’s vibrant community.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the informative presentations and student-led activities, which showcased the range of academic and extracurricular opportunities available. The evening fostered a sense of excitement and interest in the school, setting a positive tone for future engagement and admissions.

Last week, 20 Year 9 students had the opportunity to participate in a creative writing workshop with Welsh writer Dr Sara Louise Wheeler. The event was funded by the Arts Council for Wales as part of the Daniel Owen Arts and Literature Festival in Mold. The students spent the morning with Sara, honing their creative skills and writing in a range of genres. We hope to see some of them entering the writing competition for the festival and wish them the best of luck!

his week has been a fantastic one for our school football teams, with both the Year 9 boys’ and Under 13s girls’ squads securing impressive victories in their opening matches for the Welsh Schools Cup. The teams demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and skill, with standout performances from several players. Their hard work in training clearly paid off, and the sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship was evident throughout. These wins not only boost team morale but also reflect the continued growth and success of our school’s sports program. Llongfarchiadau!

This week, our School’s Equality and Diversity group participated in an inspiring Anti-racism Ambassador training session. This was led by the organisation Show Racism the Red Card Wales. The workshop focused on raising awareness of anti-racism and promoting inclusion within our school community. Students engaged in meaningful discussions, and learned practical strategies for challenging discrimination. The training has empowered the group to lead important conversations and plan initiatives within the school, reinforcing our commitment to equality, respect, and diversity.

This week, our Year 11 students successfully completed their English Oracy exams, showcasing their speaking and listening skills with confidence and maturity. The students were well-prepared, engaging in thoughtful discussions and delivering presentations on a range of topics. Their hard work and dedication to developing their communication skills were clearly evident. We are incredibly proud of their efforts. The Oracy exam is an important milestone in their English studies, and the Year 11s have set a strong foundation for their final assessments.
