Prynhawn da,

Our new term is in full flow and our older students have now already begun some of their examinations. We are pleased to report that oral examinations for Welsh and Modern Foreign Languages are deep underway and the majority of students are coping very well indeed with this demanding time.

Typically, at this time of year our Blog can become a little shorter as our main school focus is centered upon examinations. However, it is certainly true to say that we do our very best to ensure that students in all year groups still receive a broad and varied diet of experiences, even when our exam halls are in use. Today some of our lower school students will be involved in a bulb-planting workshop with Kehoe Countryside. Indeed, our friends at Kehoe will then return during July in order to reuse the timber from some of the felled trees in order to make raised beds and benches and students will assist in this process also.

Yesterday we were very pleased to be able to welcome students from Parc Y Llan, Park CP, Penyffordd, St. John’s, Bwlchgwyn and Broughton for the second of our Year 6 Wellbeing Days. It was great to spend time with these younger students and everyone enjoyed their engagement in various performing arts and sporting activities. It is clear that we will have a highly talented Year 7 intake in September!

Congratulations to Year 12 student Tom, who represented the Wales U18 Rugby team in the Six Nations tournament in Parma, Italy, over Easter. He played in three matches against England, Portugal, and France. Tom had an outstanding performance, and it was great to hear Castell Alun School mentioned several times by the match commentary team on television. Rhagorol Tom! You did yourself and the school proud.

A further llongyfarchiadau to our Year 10 Boys’ Rugby team who played Glan Clwyd in the Clwyd Cup and won narrowly won 17-12. After this hard-fought victory our lads now proceed onto the RGC Final itself, and we have high hopes of bringing back the silverware to Castell Alun!

Finally, please can we extend the invitation to the CAFA Quiz Night tonight again. Although there are many things happening in the local area at the start of this weekend, our quiz night will undoubtedly be great fun and our guest host will be Mr. Kevin Davies, Governor and former Assistant Headteacher of the school.

The forecast is looking better for the weekend…. let’s hope they are correct!

Have a lovely weekend – Mwynhewch y penwythnos
